LLYNFIVALLEY CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW

SUNDAY 21stFEBRUARY 2010

Many thanks to the organisers of this well run and friendly show and to the sporting exhibitors.

Best in Show was the American Cocker Spaniel AFTERGLOW WHATS UP DOC J.W. ShCM. When this dog entered the ring and powered around as if he owned it, my first thought was ‘wow’, so not surprised to find out his breeding. Ideal headproportions, masculine yet soft expression from dark eyes, well defined stop, everything flows on from there, super topline which never faltered, straight front and rear and balanced all through, eye catching when he is standing and even more so when moving, stylish and effortless, exhibiting reach and drive, tribute to his sound construction, moved around the ring as if he owned it. Very well presented and expertly handled. Reserve Best in Show was the Scottish Terrier AMBERYL BEINN MOR, caught my eye straight away, so typical of his breed, powerfully made throughout, harsh coat very well presented, coming to his best. Having a father who grew up with ‘Aberdeen’ Terriers, he epitomised the short-legged, long headed, strong jawed, active and compact package in my mind’s eye and on the move he remained balanced and level with straight action both coming and going. Best Puppy in Show was the Estrela Mountain Dog STURTMOOR NEVA SAY NEVA, I can’t ever remember seeing an Estrela of this quality, such a large framed dog in perfect proportion, lovely head with neat small ears, well boned and muscular, superbly presented dense coat, quality all through, free and easy movement, a striking young dog who looks capable of a days work and must have a great future. Reserve Best Puppy in Show the delightful German Spitz (Klein) PAULGEO ICENI ANNA AT DREAMSPINNER, if I had one criticism it would be that she is a little round in eye, but otherwise she is so well put together and so very eyecatching, portraying the compact, short coupled and square outline desired, moves so very soundly and truly, at one with her handler, in good double coat with correct tail carriage, good bone and feet and every inch a spitz.

LABRADOR RETRIEVER PUPPY (2)

1.Evans’ BOWSIAN INDIAN SUMMER. 9 month old black bitch, preferred the freer profile movement of 2, but this girl moved soundly enough. Nice size, well balanced, presents a pleasing outline, standing four square, does not want to carry any more weight. Feminine head, lovely ear set and expression, good spring of rib, good topline and tailset, well boned, cat like feet. Best Puppy.

2.Barker’s CARPENNY YEVA GYDA DEERBROOK

LABRADOR RETRIEVER JUNIOR (4, 1 Absent)

1.Harvey Major’s TRENDLEWOOD PLAY ME LINJOR J.W. Yellow bitch, upstanding, so very well balanced, strong neck, good layback of shoulder and upper arm, moves freely in profile though would benefit from a looser lead, good topline, well bent stifles, active and workmanlike. Best of Breed & Gundog Group 4.

2.Evans’ BOWSIAN UNDER THE MOONLIGHT

3.CARPENNY YEVA GYDA DEERBROOK

LABRADOR RETRIEVER GRADUATE (4, 1 Absent)

1.White’s ARGHISHALEE HOPE N AMBITION. Chocolate bitch, moved far and away the best in this class where shoulders were on the whole disappointing and fronts consequently wide. Would prefer a little more substance on this one, but a lovely well balanced head, sweet expression, neat ears, forechest and upper arm a little lacking, enough depth of chest, in good condition, moved truly behind and very well in profile.

2.Price’s ABBEYBROOK AGAINST ALL ODDS

3.White’s CARPENNY MUSCOVADO WITH ARGHISHALEE

LABRADOR RETRIEVER OPEN (4, 3 Absent)

1.White’s CROSSCOYDE CHIYO FOR LINJOR J.W. Pale yellow, consummate show girl, very feminine, would prefer a slightly deeper muzzle and feet could be better, good angles throughout, could be stronger in the hock and a little long in second thigh, but overall a pleasing picture with her non stop tail action.

CURLY COATED RETRIEVER OPEN (3)

1.Shears’ MAYCOURT MIDNIGHT RAMBLER AT GLENKERRY J.W. ShCM. Last judged him as a 6 month old puppy and thought him an exciting prospect, could be better off for bone and substance, but has a super outline and commendable disposition, masculine head, keen eye, clean cut elegant lines, crisp well curled coat, well presented and handled, excellent forechest, super angulation throughout, moves superbly with excellent reach and drive. Best of Breed Gundog Group 2.
