Firstly I would like to welcome you to our Pre- School. We are really lucky to have your children with us and will enjoy watching them grow, learn and develop.
As part of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum we plan for each child’s individual needs and learning. To do this it is helpful for us to know the things your child enjoys at home so we can make their learning fun and follow their interest. If there is something that your child has done with you that they have enjoyed please share this with us. We are always available at the beginning and end of your child’s sessions.
As we break up for half term on Thursday the 24th of October we will be covering Halloween Monday 21standWednesday 23rd of October. The children will have the opportunity to make scary spiders, eat jelly and worms and lots of other craft and cooking activities.
On Wednesday the 23rd of October we will also be taking part in the “Big Toddle” this is a sponsored event which supports Barnardo’s and our pre-school. I will be sending out more information nearer the time.
Some parents have asked what they could bring in for snack, so here are some ideas:
Apples Wholemeal BreadTomatoes
Bananas Wholemeal pitta Bread
Grapes Breadsticks
Mango Crackers
Kiwi Cheese
Oranges Yogurts
peachesMelon
PineappleCucumber
StrawberriesCarrots
All key persons will be working on different areas of learning to support different children’s individual needs. Below I have given you a few ideas from your children’s different key person. This will help you to support your child’s learning experiences at home and at school.
Key person / What they will be doing at Pre-school / How you can support this at home
Julie / We are going to be working on developing our listening skills by:
Playing listening games for example, sound lotto.
We will be making hats with ears on to help the children understand that we use our ears for listening
We will be using the musical instruments to tap out simple beats. /
  • You can go on a listening walk with your child and ask them what can they hear?
  • Give your child lots of time to listen and respond if they don’t respond then say what you can hear i.e “I can hear a car”.

Donna / We will be working on numbers with my key group by :
Singing number songs
Counting objects that are interesting to each individual child i.e tractors,
Using number books
Playing number games /
  • At home you could get your child to count everyday objects i.e the knifes and forks.
Use everyday opportunities to introduce numbers to your child for example when you’re at the supermarket count out the apples whilst you put them in the bag
Count things on the way to school, cars, trees, sign posts, leaves bus stops.
Sue / We are going to be working on sharing:
I will be playing simple turn taking games with the children this encourages them to share.
I will be introducing strategies like using the sandtimer. We use this so the children see that when the sand has run out its time to swap toys. / Encourage your child to take turns with you for example when mixing cakes, sharing treats.
Play games in which you have to take turns
Krystyna / We are going to be working on using our listening skills by:

Policies and Procedures
Each half term we review and update two/three of our policies. This half term they will be:Animals in the setting and equal opportunities and valuing diversity.
If you would like to contribute towards these please ask for a copy of the current policies. / Safeguarding.
  • If you have any concerns about a child please speak to Julie Sillery
  • If you have any health and safety concerns please speak to Krystyna Harkness.
  • If you have any complaints about the Pre-school then please come in and speak to me, or follow our complaint’s policy.

Reminders:
Could all items such as bags and coats be clearly labelled with your child’s name please.
If your child is wearing nappies, clean nappies, wipes and nappy sacks need to be provided by you so that we can change your child during the session.
Could the children bring in their book bags on the days they attend as this provides them somewhere to put their pictures/ newsletters.
Thank You
I have made a complements book(which is on the parents information board, as you walk into the pre-school on the right hand side) When you feel we deserve a good comment we would really appreciate it if you would please put it in here. It is always nice to hear good comments and recording them also allows us to prove to OFSTED that you think we do a good/outstanding job in caring for and educating your children. / Committee:
Sticky Fingers is a community Pre-School run by a committee of parents and carers. It is part of our requirements to have a committee containing up to 15 parents and carers. If we do not have a committee we will be unable to open. The AGM will be held on Monday 30th September 2013 at 9:30 at the All saint’s church on kendal Avenue to sign up new members and elect people for key roles. If we have no committee we will not be able to open on Tuesday 1st October.

Please look on the parent’s information board for any information in between newsletters.

Thank you for your continued support.

Any questions please come and ask.
