I. Announcements

Wed Jan 12, 2011 – Managers and Dept Chairs meeting to discuss the implications of SB 1440 as well as other campus business. Lunch will be provided. 11:30-1:30. Hannia Velez will be sending out invitations.

November 18th meeting – agenda in the process of being formed. PRIE will like to present research results of the SCC Survey. If you wish to have other topics, please send to Jeff Knorr or to Carl.

Holly Piscopo – Are we interested in doing Department specific flex workshops or activities that she would be able to coordinate for us? This year, we had many depts do flex workshops regarding SLO’s. Do we wish to have an afternoon blocked off during flex for dept based activities? We need to respond to Holly sometime the first week of November – say before Veteran’s Day. She’ll send out an email as a friendly reminder.

Holly Piscopo – Thanks to everyone who evaluated convocation. Some things that we can now expect from convocation – some of the repetitive information will be distributed by email instead of at convocation. People liked having something interactive – so perhaps inspirational and interactive speakers. Also hearing from students and possibly alumni for convocation is desired.

Holly Piscopo – Basic Skills Initiative, they are working on this and will have communication about this in the near future. Likely later this year.

II. Statistics Pre-requisite Pilot Project

Rick Woodmansee – next semester they are using Statistics 300 as the pilot program to block students not meeting prerequisites from signing up for that class. This pilot will use PeopleSoft to block students. Some students will have to submit transcripts to Admissions and Records to prove that they have met the prerequisite out-of-district. Unofficial transcripts are fine, but each page must include full name, student ID number, and birth date.

Categories of students in this process:

1) Students taking the prerequisites in LRCCD will be identified and will automatically be able to enroll. 2) Any student having taken an assessment test in the LRCCD will also be able to automatically enroll. 3) Any student taking the pre-req course prior to 2003 will not be in the “system” so will have to come in to have their transcripts evaluated by Admissions and Records – they can do this before their enrollment date. 4) Students who have taken courses that meet the pre-req but from outside the LRCCD will need to have their transcripts evaluated at A&R – unofficial transcripts okay. CalifCommCollege, UC, or CSU – no enrollment hang-ups if doing the evaluation early. 5) Students currently enrolled in the pre-req – can enroll (for normal start of enrollment) but would be dropped if they don’t pass the pre-req. 6) Students can also do a pre-req challenge and are able to enroll, but if they don’t meet the pre-req because they were unsuccessful in completing whatever they needed to meet the challenge then they need to be dropped by the instructor.

Only pre-requisites are being considered at this time – co-requisites are not currently being considered for this process.

We (as instructors) are being asked to inform our student of these new pre-requisite processes (particular for Stat 300 in Spring 2011).

If students have questions about enrolling in Stat 300 in Spring 2011, refer them to:

1. Prerequisite Website:

If that doesn’t answer the questions, then refer them to:

2. Admissions and Records (at the petition window)

If they still need advise, then refer them to:

3. Counseling

And if they need help understanding the prerequisite challenge process, refer them to:

4. Math, Statistics, Engineering Division Office.

III. Elaine Ader, Facilities/IT Requests.

IT requests that are not part of the normal replacement cycle needs to be in the unit plan so that proper planning can occur. Same with the Facilities process.

Alex Adan is putting together a normal replacement cycle for smart classrooms and smart carts.

In IT, if we wish to have a “downstream” machine to replace an existing computer, we can add it into the Unit Plan. Cascaded machines are also in the replacement cycle, but it will be replaced with another cascaded machine – not a new machine.

Macs run about 50% higher cost than PC’s, but they are also on a normal cascade cycle for replacement. For faculty that wish to switch from PC to Mac, yes, that can be done and has never been refused at this time – but be aware that the costs are higher to the college.

Next Meeting – Thursday November 18, 2010.
