“Role of Renewable Energy in Energy Planning and Expanding Livelihood Options”
Venue:New Delhi, India

Background
Due to the importance of renewable energy, Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe) organizes International Training Programme every year since 2003 for participants from Asia and Africa. Our Past participants appreciate this programme prompting us to do one every year. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has kindly supported these initiatives. We are also fortunate to have guest speakers giving state-of-the-art lectures on a vast number of topics. This year we chose this theme which connects renewable energy planning and livelihood options. The Training Programe will commence on 15th March and end on 22nd March 2007.
The main issues which will be addressed in the Training Programme are:
- Communication and awareness of renewable energy and RETs among key stakeholders and decision makers of the potential solar, wind, biomass and other renewable energy resources and provision of adequate information to promote RETs systems, their standards and sustainable use of energy resources.
- Increase understanding of environmental issues and their implications at all levels, from the local to the global, and to influence opinion and policy in ways that promote sustainable forms of development.
- Importance of climate change and carbon credits.
- Cost-benefit framework as well as relative comparisons with fossil fuels and pricing issues.
- Motivate industry, investors, researchers, and government agencies to continuously share information that will facilitate dissemination of renewable energy technologies with the income-generating activities and better local economy.
Approaches that call for people’s participation and connect with livelihood options will be stressed so that the people take responsibilities at local level. The training program is designed to be of particular relevance for the developing countries of Asia and Africa.
