Dear Parents,
Teacher Training Day – 8th January
Just a reminder that the 8th January is a teacher training day and children will not be in school. HOWEVER, Mr Bruce from All Star Football Academy will be running a day of sports and activities in school on that day, for £10 per child from 9am until 3pm. Where else can you get six hours enjoyable, engaging childcare for a tenner? We hope that this is helpful to parents who are working on this day and are looking to offer similar on future training days. If you would like to come, please let us know in advance. The £10 is payable on the day directly to Mr Bruce.
“What can we learn from the great outdoors?” – Landing event
As you know, we are very keen to work closely with parents to share what we are learning. As we come to the end of our current topic, we would like to invite all parents to come and experience what we have learnt. We would love it if anyone who is available could come into school from 1.30pm on Thursday 14th December. There will be an opportunity to see what each class has done and have a go yourselves. Thank you for the replies we have had already, it is great to see so many of you are keen to come. Don’t worry if you can’t make the whole afternoon, you are very welcome to come for as much of it as you can.
Christmas Tree Competition
Please pop into St. James’ Church in Boroughbridge tomorrow and vote for our entry in the community Christmas Tree Competition. We won last year so are facing the tricky task of defending our title! Children from Nursery to Y6 have contributed.
Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 15th December
If children would like to wear a Christmas Jumper (or similar) on Friday 15th, they can do so. We will be collecting for Save The Children, with a suggested donation of £1 each.
Nativity and Christmas Fair
Please remember the Nativity and Christmas Fair will take place at Great Ouseburn Church from 2pm, followed by the Christmas Fair back at school. Everyone from the whole community is very welcome.
Parent Pay
As it is the end of the term, we would be very grateful if everyone could check and clear any debts on ParentPay. Bah, humbug!
Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood
A reminder that we are taking Early Years and KS1 to the panto at the Barbican in York on 21st December. We have enough volunteers now and thank you to everyone who has paid already.
Playground Developments – Co-op Community Fund
Exciting news, theschoolhas been selected as one of three local causes to benefit from the Co-op LocalCommunity Fund forphase two of the outside area development. Phase one was the installation of the artificial grass on the playgroundand we askedthechildren what they'd like to have next. They have asked for an outdoors classroom withsensory gardenthat will attract wildlife. The plan is to transform thecurrently underused areabehind the Year 5/6 classroom to create a space they can explore, enjoy and treasure.
The funding runs for 11 monthsfromNovember to October and we could receive around £1500 which would be fantastic. So here is what wekindly ask you to do:
If you're not already, please sign up to be a Co-op Member for a £1 and select Friends of Great Ouseburn School as your local cause (it will come up as one of threewhen you have added yourpostcode). – then please tell all your friends and family who live locally!
Ourlocal Co-op is in Skipbridge on the A59 by the petrol station.Every time members shop at the Co-op, 1% of what they spend on selected own-brand products and services goes to the Co-op Local Community Fund. This is then equally shared between us and two other local charities. The Coop also giveusan equal share of the money they raise from sales of carrier bags. Members in the local community will be able to choose our cause and give their 1%.So as well as becoming a memberplease consider doing the odd shop there if you're passing!! Thank you so much.
Parent View
We are very keen to receive feedback from parents and carers regarding how the school is performing. Whilst we are very keen to talk to parents directly about how things are going in school, we would also like to gather feedback officially. Ofsted provide Parent View as a means to share your feedback and you can do so here:
Midday Supervisory Assistant
We are looking for a new MSA to start in January. Please come and see me if you, or anyone you know would be interested.

Christmas Fair
As you know, we’re having a little FOGOS Fair on Wednesday 20 December in the school straight after the nativity. The entrance is free and we’ll have a café with mulled wine, mince pies and lots more. Each class is running a stall with either games or selling their handmade decorations. We’ll be running three sittings for Storytime with Father Christmas from 3.30. You can choose a session on the day, £3 for a seat with Santa which includes a gift. Plus we’ll be having a festive singalong, a raffle, tombola, biscuit decorating and Christmas crafting.
