Job Purpose
To deputise for the Line Controller and assist in leading and managing daily production across 1/2 production lines, by planning, organising, co-ordinating activities of colleagues in production, preparation and material, to despatch of finished products. In order to achieve production plan within cost, quality, safety and hygiene parameters.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the work of 30 – 60 Operatives on line.
- Lead and motivate the teams providing clear direction, plan work and organise resources to ensure targets and quality standards are met and customer orders filled.
- To ensure the operatives are appropriately trained to undertake the full range of jobs within the two lines/unit.
- Liaise with the Line Controller to identify training requirements and put an action plan together to carry out the necessary training.
- To ensure job rotation is complied with in full, and documented.
- To introduce new operatives (permanent or temporary) into the two lines/unit and ensure that they are inducted appropriately and in accordance with the Training Department.
- To ensure each line is manned at optimum levels, taking into account holiday and absence cover and KPI’s are completed.
- Help recruit and select operatives so that the team has the right people for the job, assess team development and key skills.
- Respond to team queries, problems and concerns promptly and efficiently in order to achieve a well formed outcome, communicate this information to the Line Controller for action.
- Monitor team absence and timekeeping and take appropriate action where necessary. Ensure accurate records are maintained in accordance with HR
- Undertake/assist in disciplinary action where appropriate to designated level in conjunction with the HR Department.
- Ensure all products are manufactured to required quality standards, customer specification.
- To show due diligence using traceabilty systems on a daily basis.
- To ensure safe working practices in accordance with all current Healthand Safety legislation.
- All appropriate start-upchecks are carried out and appropriate records maintained.
- Maintain housekeeping at required and acceptable levels in accordance with technical instruction.
- Attend meetings as appropriate and ensure the two lines are brief on relevant information.
- Represent the company to visitors and explain the work of the team and the unit.
- Identifyand take part in continuous improvement projects.
- Deputise for Line Controller in their absence
- Aid in the development of a succession plan to cover all key individuals and roles. i.e. Service, Op, Check Weigher, Depositor Op and Machine Op
- Any other duties, which may be reasonable may be requested within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the job as defined., subject to the proviso that normally an change of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.
- Carry out training in line with the needs of the business.

- At least 12 months experience at Service/Machine Op level
- Obtained Grade 2 status and evidence of training.
- Good Knowledge of SHQQC
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Good Organisation and Time Management Skills
