POST:Daily Respite Assistant

HOURS:16 hours

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Respite Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Assisting the Respite Manager to build up and deliver a high quality, efficient and effective daily respite service at the Centre for people living with MS and other neurological conditions.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be responsible for the timely, effective and safe management of all clients presenting at the Merlin MS centre.

Undertake all manual handling assessments on clients to ensure their personal needs are met.

Understand the need for using specialised equipment, ensuring that safe working practices are adhered to at all times.

Support volunteers to meet the needs of those using the daily respite service.

To lead on the development of clinical guidelines to assist in the provision of service excellence.

To provide guidance and advice to other professionals involved in the provision of therapy services through the Centre to patients and carers.

ESSENTIAL TO THIS ROLE:

Candidates should have the relevant care diplomas. and or experience of working in a care environment.

Experience of working with people with MS or other neurological conditions v

Communication

To use effective communication skills to motivate and encourage participation in sessions.

To ensure that clients and carers are aware of the choices available to them for the management of their care and are able to make informed decisions based on the information provided to them.

To ensure complex issues are discussed with clients and where necessary an outside agency. Where appropriate, any disclosure of information should be with the consent of the client or carer.

To provide information to outside agencies as required supporting the management of their condition.

To develop close working relationships with other members of the team to ensure the sharing of appropriate information and integrated approach to patient care and rehabilitation.

To represent and promote the Centre at organised events both within the centre and in the community.

To be responsible for the management of informal conflict and complaints.

Information Management

To maintain accurate patient records and ensure the safe keeping and confidentiality of these records.

To check emails regularly and reply in a timely fashion.

To ensure new patients have filled in Centre administration forms and provided informed consent to information sharing with other medical professionals.

General

To undertake Manual Handling training on a yearly basis.

To attend First Aid training on a three-yearly basis, or when certification expires.

To be aware of health and Safety responsibilities and infection control policies to ensure cleanliness within the department.

To provide work station advice to staff members on request, general risk assessment of working environments and any environmental factors that may impact on the health and safety of yourself, a colleague, client or visitor to the Centre.

To observe the rules, policies and procedures set out by the Merlin MS Centre.
