- Rainbow Write: Write your words using a pencil. Then trace over your words with a crayon. Then trace a second time with a different colored crayon. Finally, trace a third time with a different colored crayon. Trace NEATLY and you will see the rainbow!
- Consonant/Vowel: You will need two different colored crayons for this activity. Write your spelling words in your Spelling Journal using one color for all the consonants and the other color for all the vowels.
- Crazy/Bubble Letters: Write each of your spelling words in bubble letters (or some other fancy way) in your Spelling Journal.

- Flash Writing: In a darkened room, use a flashlight to write your spelling words in the air. Have a partner read your words as you write them, or a parent can “flash write” your words and your job is to read the words. Record the words you practiced in your homework journal.
- SpellingBaseball: Draw bases on four pieces of paper or lay out four pillows to be the bases. The pitcher selects a word. If the batter can spell the word correctly, he moves forward one base. If the batter cannot spell the word, he remains where he is. A point is scored every time you pass home plate. Ask your parent to record this activity in your Spelling Journal.

- Look Say Spell Cover Write Check: Write your words on a blank piece of paper. Then LOOK at the first word. SAY that word out loud. SPELL that word out loud. COVER that word up. WRITE it next to the word you were just looking at. CHECK the word to see if you spelled it right. If it's right, move on to the next word. Or…you could do it online! Visit the following website! Only 10 words can be practiced at a time.
- There’s an app for that: If you have access to an ipod touch or ipad, ask your parents for help loading one of these FREE apps. KidsDoodle will let you draw your word and play it back like a movie. Glitter Draw and Drawing Kids let you draw your words with cool “pens.”
Spelling Test (Tap To Learn Software) and My Spelling Test (Funflip Studios) each cost 99¢. These apps let you enter and audio record your words. You can then have the test dictated to you in your own voice! Neither is perfect. I like Spelling Test slightly better than My Spelling Test due to the way the results are displayed.
Should you choose to do any of these tech activities, ask your parent to record it in your Spelling Journal.
Don’t forget to practice reading your spelling words, too!
*Making up your own creative way to learn your words is encouraged as well! Happy word making!
