SITE FURNISHINGS – PRECAST CONCRETE
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1SUMMARY
- Section Includes: Manufactured architectural precast concrete planter pots.
1.2SUBMITTALS
- General: Submit in accordance with Section 01330 Submittal Procedures.
- Product Data: Submit Form and Fiber Inc. technical product data for Boardform precast concrete planter pots.
- Submit following Informational Submittals:
- Qualification Data: Manufacturer’s qualification data.
1.3QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Single Source Responsibility: Provide architectural precast concrete planters from one manufacturer with consistent color and finish.
1.4DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
- Comply with manufacturer’s requirements.
- Transport, store, and handle concrete units in an upright position.
- Protect base, edges, inside and outside rim to prevent staining, cracking, chipping, spalling, bowing and warping.
- Use equipment and methods for transportation, site handling and installation as recommended by manufacturer.
- Storage:
- Store units off ground, preferably on a wood pallet, and in manner to prevent cracking, staining or other physical damage.
- Place stored units in a singular upright position and according to manufacturer specifications.
- Store so that singular units are accessible and undamaged.
- Protect drainage holes from water and ice during freezing weather.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1MANUFACTURER
- Products specified in this Section are manufactured by Form and Fiber Inc, P.O. Box 2102, Mabank Texas 75147, Tele. (888) 314-8852,
2.2MATERIALS
- Concrete: Manufacturer’s proprietary blend of sand, aggregate, Portland cement, fiberglass fiber, sand, water, and admixtures, including natural color pigment.
- Use only one brand, type and source of cement for entire Project.
- Standard Manufacturer Colors: Natural Gray ______or natural color pigment as selected from Davis Colors, a trademark of Rockwood Pigments.
- Wood:
1. Selection of species based on expression of wood grain, moisture resistance, and
consistency of form and alignment.
2. Board selection should be straight and true to form.
- Water: Clean, and drinkable.
- Sealants:
- Inside Sealant, water-based penetrating sealant. Clear, matte, UV stable, non-yellowing.
- Outside Sealant, water-based penetrating sealant. Clear, matte, UV stable, non-yellowing.
2.3FABRICATION - GENERAL
- Formwork:
- Fabricate wood forms for close control of dimensions and details per designer specification, utilizing: 4 inch ____ 6 inch ____ or 8 inch ____ nominal board widths.
- Alignment of wood forms: Horizontal Aligned ______or Offset Layout ______.
- Provide level 1/8" to 1/4" finger joints between boards____ or tightly butted joints ____.
- Fabricate forms sufficiently rigid to meet casting tolerances.
- Coat formwork with form release agent.
- Casting:
- Provide precast concrete mix for full unit depth.
- Cast units to wall thickness:
2.5 inch thickness for planters up to 6’-0” L ____,
3 inch thickness for planters over 6’-1” L to 7’-11” ____
3.5 inch thickness for planters 8’-0” L ____
(Planters over 8’-0”L(96”), require manufacturer approval prior to specification and may increase to 4” thickness)
- Provide optional drainage hole according to designer specifications.
- Cast internal steel loops for lifting and locating of units.
- Ensure fluidity of mix to capture wood grain detail.
- Fabricate units to required profiles and sizes. Execute work accurately to specified tolerances and free of broken edges. Fabricate edges straight and with clean accurate arises.
- Ensure exposed edges and ends match finish and texture of face of unit.
- Curing:
- Protect units from exposure to weather until concrete strength is adequate for form removal.
- Cure units under identical conditions.
- Cured units compressive strength: minimum 4,500 psi.
2.4PLANTER POTS
- Boardform Series Planters: Applications Heavy Public Traffic-to-Residential
- Square or rectangular boardform concrete planter pots.
- Product Dimensions for height, depth, and width (up to 96" length) as specified by designer.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1EXAMINATION
- Examine deliveries upon arrival at site to verify each unit is without damage.
3.2INSTALLATION
- General:
- Comply with manufacturer's written installation instructions.
- Install units without damage to shape or finish. Damage includes chips or cracks in exposed-to-view areas.
- Do not install damaged units, except as approved by Architect.
- Repair [Replace] damaged units.
- Set units level, plumb, square and true within allowable tolerances.
- Install units in final locations and in arrangements, as indicted on Drawings.
3.3ADJUSTING
- Adjust each concrete planter pot so that units are in proper location and orientation.
- Drainage holes cannot be added to units in the field and must be fabricated during casting process.
3.4CLEANING
- Clean dirt or blemishes from surface of exposed units.
- Wash and rinse in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Protect adjacent surfaces from damage due to cleaning operations.
- Do not use cleaning materials or processes which could alter character of exposed finishes.
