PROCESS FOR REQUESTING
BEHAVIOR CONSULTATION SERVICES
1. Building administrator contacts, SISD Behavior Specialist by phone to discuss consultation request (810.648.2200)
Consultation can include:
A. Need for Classroom Management Support (Level I)
B. Local team has been unsuccessful in their attempts (Level II)
C. Student requires a formal FBA/BIP (Level III)
a. Behaviors that endanger safety of self/others
b. Behaviors that impede learning
c. Behaviors resulting in suspension over 10 days
D. Student requires multi-agency/disciplinary services (Level IV)
2. For Level III requests, Behavior Specialist sends referral packet to the school to be completed
and returned prior to an initial meeting. If time does not permit, forms may be completed at the
initial meeting. If appropriate, Behavior Specialist completes classroom observation(s) prior
to this meeting, as well (Parent Signature Required).
3. TEAM convenes to complete FBA and develop Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). If additional
FBA information is needed to design BIP, the meeting is suspended until additional information is gathered. Behavior supports are put in place pending BIP implementation. TEAM re-convenes
when information is complete to design BIP.
4. Behavior Specialist trains appropriate staff to implement the plan.
5. Behavior Intervention Plan is implemented as designed.
6. Behavior Specialist monitors implementation of plan at least weekly until the next TEAM meeting/staffing.
7. A follow-up meeting is convened to determine plan effectiveness and make any necessary changes.
8. Behavior Specialist continues to monitor plan and meet with the TEAM until the TEAM is prepared to follow it independently.
FBA (Functional Behavioral Assessment): A systematic process for describing behaviors that
interfere with learning, identifying the environmental factors/setting events that predict
these behaviors, and guiding the development of an effective and efficient Behavior
Support Plan (BSP).
BIP (Behavior Intervention Plan): A behavioral plan that includes a variety of
proactive strategies as well as reinforcement and consequences in an effort to
increase appropriate behavior as well as decrease inappropriate behavior.
