FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — (April 29, 2016) Four BrowardCounty high school seniors who plan to pursue a major in public administration, political science or other government-related fieldwere each awarded a$1,000 scholarship from the Broward League of Cities.
The Broward League of Cities’ Scholarship for Government Studies programrecognizes students who want to pursue a career in government, and have demonstrated strong leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service.
This year’s recipients are:
Danielle Bush: Resident of Weston attending Cypress Bay High School
Danielle wants to study public policy and obtain a career in public office. “My pursuit of a career in public administration is to correct the direction I see our society moving in,” she said.
Looghermine Claude: Resident of Miramar attending Pembroke Pines Charter High School
Looghermine wants to become a U.S. ambassador and congresswoman, helping to build relationships between the United States and foreign nations through diplomacy, environmental protection and women’s empowerment. “This form of public service is important because it helps people all around the world receive the help and support that they need to build better communities,” she said.
Erin Connors:Resident of Lighthouse Point and a student at Deerfield Beach High School
Erin aspires to combine two of her passions: political science and statistics. “Public service at any level is essential to the functionality of any form of government,” she says.
Manuel Osaba:Resident of Davie and a student at Western High School
Manuel plans to study environmental law, with the goal of helping government shape environmental policies and regulations. “I want to serve in government because I want to embolden and innovate how my government serves its people,” he said.
“We are impressed by the caliber of students who are receiving this scholarship,” said David Rosenof, Past President, Broward League of Cities. “The League is honored to shine the spotlight on these four highly deserving scholars for their dedication to their education,their achievements in the community and their passion for political science and government. We hope others can learn from their successes
and drive.

Chartered in 1957, the Broward League of Cities is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and resolving issues facing BrowardCounty’s 31 cities and municipalities. A member of the Florida League of Cities, which serves tounify local governments throughout the state of Florida, the organization’s membership is made up of elected officials from municipal governments and area businesses. The organization is committed to increasing awareness and providing resolution to issues that affect day-to-day operations of local government, including legislation at the county, state and federal levels.
