CONTEST IDEAS-Page 1

TIME TO LOSE: Each member is given a clock with hands facing HIGH NOON. Member moves big hand forward for each pound lost. You may also move 1/4 of a minute for the following tasks: bring in a completed food chart, write a note that week to another Tops member, exercise at least 20 minutes a day for 3 days that week and drink 8-8oz. water per day. For a gain, you must move your hands back to NOON. Winner is the person who advances their clock by one hour.

CLOUD NINE: Get a poster board and paste enough “clouds” on it for each member. If you lose, you get to paste a white pompom on for however many pounds you lost. If you gain you have to put a black “raindrop” pompom, according to how many pounds you gained. If you turtle, a gray pompom will do. The person who loses the most weight wins an umbrella.

LOWERING THE BOOM: Attach a “BOOM” to an elastic string and thread it through two holes on a poster board that has a graph for poundage written on it. This is a chapter visual…not really a contest. Or you could use this idea as a team contest. After tallying up net pounds lost or gained that week, pull the elastic thread either up or down to indicate pounds lost or gained.

HORSE RACING: Each member picks a horse and names it. They all start at the gate. Move your horse forward or backwards for each pound lost or gained. Member who crosses the finish line first wins.

TUG O’ WAR: Team contest. According to roll call, teams are pulled back and forth depending on how many pounds are lost or gained. Gainers must bring a little gift each time they gain and at the end of the contest, the winning team gets to pick out a gift from all the gifts collected.

FISHIN’-or WISHIN’? Every member gets a fish bowl drawn on a piece of paper. For every pound lost, they get to put a fish in their bowl. Whoever winds up with the most fish, wins. If you gain, you have to flush your fish!! You may decide amongst yourselves the rules for gainers if you don’t wish to “flush.”

Another FISHING CONTEST: Before starting this contest, decide how many weeks it will continue. Each member gets a fishing pole with a line on it. Every time they lose, they get to put a fish on their line. Members play until the end of the designated time. With each loss, you get a fish on the end of your line. If you gain, you have to remove all your fish and start over. The winner is the person who has the most fish. This is to see how many people can weigh in with consecutive losses. The winner is not necessarily the one who lost the most weight. The winner is the person with the most consecutive losses.
