FOR CHAPTER PHILANTHROPY CHAIRMEN
Congratulations on being elected Philanthropy Chair! Philanthropy Chair is an important position that leads your Chapter in the Fraternity’s mission of caring for and supporting those who are less fortunate. The duties of the Philanthropy Chair generally include:
· Coordinate all of the Chapter’s service and charitable events or projects
· Organize at least two major philanthropic projects or events each academic year that benefit the Fraternity’s national philanthropies
· Collaborate with the Chapter’s Public Relations Chair and Fundraising Chair to plan successful philanthropy events on campus and in your community
· Be responsible for actively engaging all members of the Chapter in philanthropic events
· Engage the student body, other Greek organizations and the community in philanthropy events as often as possible
Reports
The Philanthropy Report is due November 15 and April 15. All reports should be complete and submitted on time to receive cooperation points.
National Philanthropies
The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation manages the Fraternity's educational and philanthropic aims. The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation subsidizes educational programming at conventions and conferences, awards scholarships to collegians and alumnae, provides fellowships to leadership training, and raises funds to continue those efforts.
Sources of funds for the Foundation include: contributions from individuals; fundraising activities conducted by chapters, colonies and alumnae associations; memorials for deceased relatives and friends; contributions collected at the traditional Founders' Day Roll Call; and, bequests.
Through the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation, the Fraternity supports two national philanthropic causes: GlenmaryHome Missioners and The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built.
Glenmary Home Missioners
Glenmary's work is in depressed rural areas of the United States, primarily in the Appalachian Mountains, where they distribute food, clothing, and books to needy persons, and assist in providing medical care, job training and tutoring. In addition, Glenmary Home Missioners operate Camp Friendship. Camp Friendship is a summer camp for children ages 8 to 12, regardless of faith, residing in the rural areas served by Glenmary.

The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built
The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built is Theta Phi Alpha's newest philanthropic cause, established in 1993. The common goal through The House is to improve the plight of the homeless in any way. The chapter can seek to provide assistance to organizations that help the homeless, shelters, home building or neighborhood revitalization projects. This goal permits all Theta Phi Alphas to help those in need in their own community, while remaining united in our aim and purpose.
