Making Development Real for All

“No internationally agreed development goals could be genuinely achieved without including the over 1 billion persons with disabilities in development.” (General Assembly Resolution 63/150)

The objective of this open Forum on development and disability, a new initiative of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the global focal point on disability within the UN system is to contribute to the collective endeavour of the international community toward the post 2015 development framework from the disability perspective.

The event will bring together a wide range of stakeholders to develop concrete ideas for a way forward toward a development agenda that is inclusive of all- including of persons with disabilities. Participants will exchange their experiences and ideas in key areas of international development policy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation toward the goal of development for ALL.

The Forum will provide an important opportunity to initiate informal networks of scholars, practitioners, experts and advocates on specific issues in disability and development. This is the first in a series of forums organized by DESA to explore options for practical action to “make development real for all” and inclusive of persons with disabilities and their communities toward 2015 and beyond.
