The Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a two-year Term Adjunct position in the area of media studies. The candidate would teach the equivalent of two large enrollment 3-unit courses, one of which is in-class, and one online. A two-year Term Adjunct is a position remunerated for teaching only.
The courses to be taught are in the areas ofcritical media studies and popular culture studies. The candidate must have a well-developed media studies backgroundwith knowledge in related areas such as popular culture, digital media in the visual arts, gaming platforms, media activism and agency, digital Humanities research, or media history.
The successful candidate will teach a slate of two large enrollment courses, both bearing the same course name, FILM 240: Media and Popular Culture. Both courses have similar course content, but are offered separately in in-class and online formats.The expected enrollment for each courseis 200 students, for which there will be appropriate support from teaching assistants. Much of the curricular content can be adapted from existing teaching materials and the existing online platform, but there is considerable opportunityand expectation for course content modification and development, especially in the second year of the contract.
Candidates must have at minimum a PhDand at least two years of teaching experience. The Department is interested in candidates with a very strong teaching profile. The courses are fall/winter term courses and the appointment is for the period July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019.
The Department of Film and Media has collaborations with Computing (with a program called Computing and the Creative Arts), Music, Drama (with the Stage and Screen program), and the BFA in Visual Arts, as well as the Graduate Program in Cultural Studies. The Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University has a 45-year history based in a commitment to the intersection of theory and practice.
