Panagiotis E. Tsiakaras is currently:
Professorof Catalysis, Electrocatalysis and Fuel Cells Engineering, Director of the Laboratory of Alternative Energy Conversion Systems and Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering-University of Thessaly in Greece. He received his 5-years Diploma from the Department of Industrial Chemistry from the University of Messina – Italy on 1984 and his 2-years MSc on 1987. On 1992 he defended his PhD at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras (Greece). On 1992 he awarded with the Eurodoct price and he received for his studies Scholarships from Greek and Italian Research Institutes.ProfTsiakaras speaks and writes fluently Italian and English.
The research interestsof Prof Tsiakaras are focused in the fields of:
i) catalytic and electrocatalytic processes, ii) solid state electrochemistry, iii) low, intermediate and high temperature Fuel Cells (PEMFCs and SOFCs), iv) Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells for energy production and v) Design and development of novel catalysts for hydrogen production via reforming of renewable fuels.
Since 2001, Prof Tsiakaras has received for his research activities more than 1,500,000$ from national and international competitive research programmes.
Prof Tsiakaras has been invited to present his work in more than 50 universities, institutes and companies. Currently he is member of the advisory board of the companies Franco Cell (Paris) and Solid Cell (New YorkUSA).
Teaching/Tutoring: Prof. Tsiakaras teaches: i)in the graduate program the courses of chemistry for engineers and advances energy conversion systems, and ii)in the postgraduate program chemical reaction engineering and engineering ofelectrochemical processes. During June-July of 2010 he has been a visiting Professor at the Department of Industrial Chemistry and Materials Engineering of the University of Messina-Italy.
Up today, Dr Tsiakaras has supervised in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-UTH, 10 PhD students (advisor 6 + co-advisor 4). Few of them (3) are Professors in other Universities and few (2) research associates. Moreover he has supervised 20 MScand more than 30 graduate students, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Thessaly.
