RECORDER KARATE UNIT
Dear Parents,
As a part of the music curriculum we will soon be learning to play the soprano recorder in music class. We will begin the recorder unit next week (November 14th) and will continue for approximately 6-7 music class periods. If your child does not already have a recorder, purchasing a recorder is highly recommended and inexpensive.
To make it more convenient I have recorders for your child to purchase at school that are available in four different colors. You must have check/cash to purchase the instrument. The recorder comes with a storage case, cleaning rod, and fingering chart. The price is $3.50. You are able to purchase soprano recorders from other sources/stores however please be aware that some instruments from bargain stores break quite easily. If you cannot afford to purchase your own instrument students will need to borrow a recorder from my class. Borrowed recorders are only used by your child for the duration of the unit and are sanitized in the school dishwasher once a week. Borrowed recorders may not be taken home for practice.
Please complete the recorder information below and return the detachable form back to me. Recorders can be paid by check (made out to Carl Sandburg Middle School Music) or by cash. Please mark the appropriate listing below.
Once we have begun our instructional unit on recorders please encourage your child to practice. This unit is worth 100 points and provided students are using their time wisely during class to practice they should receive the grade of an A or B. Your child is responsible for bringing their recorder to every music class. If they purchased a recorder and forgot their instrument for class they will need to borrow an instrument for that day. Students are welcome to keep their instrument in my class if they wish to not take them home. Students may purchase more than one recorder if they wish to keep one home and one at school.
