Dear Families,

I am excited to welcome you and your child to our class. With your support and cooperation, I know we can look forward to an exciting and successful year. The family is an important influence in each child’s education. When the teachers and parents place a high value on learning, it is easier for a child to see the importance of working hard in school. Since parents have a vital role in their child’s success, I will strive to maintain communication with you.

The first few weeks of school are important for setting standards and expectations. I will be spending a lot of time reviewing school rules and procedures.

It is important for your student to get a good night’s sleep and bring a nutritious snack to school. There are things you can do, as a parent, that will help your child be successful this year.

  1. A child that is rested and well nourished usually feels good and is liable to have the physical stamina that is necessary to concentrate and work for prolonged periods of time.
  2. Encourage your child to read. Make sure they read the required 20 minutes each night on Moby Max (a computer program that all children will have a log in and account set up by me. They will use this at school on ipads so they should be very familiar with it. If you have issues with Internetavailability at home, please let me know ASAP so that we may set up an alternative for your child.
  3. Help your child with weekly spelling lists, and drill him / her on the math facts, (addition, subtraction, and multiplication). Spelling lists can be found on Spelling City, your student will be trained on how to use this web site in class.
  4. Check your child’s planner each day and review and or help him or her complete the day’s assignments. You can also see how their behavior was that day by looking at what color there clip was on at the end of the day. I will send home information about the clip chart and what each color represents. Please be sure to initial your child’s planner each day.

Please feel free to check out my web site for more information. Simply go to the district web site: lsusd.net, select Lakeview on drop down menu for find a school. When you have gotten to the Lakeview web site, click on “staff” select Upchurch, Elizabeth and you are there!

I look forward to seeing you at Parent Orientation on TUESDAY, September 23rd at 6:00. During the presentation, I will explain more fully the 3rdgrade curriculum, classroom routines, and answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Upchurch
