2.The ages of two persons A and B are in the ratio 7:5. Ten years hence, the ratio of their ages will be 9:7. Find their ages.
3.Kiran had 85 currency notes in all, some of which were of Rs.100denomination and the remaining of Rs.50 denomination. The total amount of all these currency notes was Rs.5000. How much amount did she have in the denomination of Rs.50?
4.The profit earned by selling an article for Rs.832 is equal to the loss incurred when the same article is sold for Rs.448. What should be the selling price for making 50% profit?
5.One pencil costs Rs.2 and one pen costs Rs.15. If Shilpa pays Rs.100 to purchase pencils and pens, write a liner equation to decide the number of pencils and pens that can be bought against the payment of Rs.100. Find three possible solutions.
6.Two students Amit and Joseph contributed Rs.100 towards the Relief funds to help earthquake victims. Write a linear equation for this data and draw its graph.
7.Akbar divides Rs.8600 among 5 sons, 4 daughters and 2 nephews. If each daughter receives four times as much as each nephew and each son receives five times as much as each nephew, how much does each daughter receive?
8.A police car is ordered to chase a speeding car which is 5 km ahead and is traveling at an average speed of 80km/hr. The police car is running at an average speed of 100 km/hr. How long does it take for the police car to overtake the speeding car?
9.Draw the graph of line y = -2x + 3. Using the graph, find the intercept of the line on Y axis and also the area between the line and the co-ordinate axes.
10.Give the geometric representation of 2y = 6 as an equation (i) in one variable, (ii) in two variables.
EXERCISE – 8.2
1.Two pens and three pencils cost Rs.86. Four pens and a pencil cost Rs.112. Find the cost of a pen and that of a pencil.
2.Two numbers are such that 4 times the smaller one is less than 3 times the larger one by 5. If the sum of the numbers is larger than 6 times their difference by 6, find the two numbers.
3.A salesman sold a saree and a shirt for Rs.760, thereby making a profit of 25% on the saree and 10% on the shirt. By selling them for Rs.767.50, he would have realized a profit of 10% on the saree and 25% on the shirt. Find the cost price of each.
4.There are two examination rooms A and B. If 10 examinees are sent from A to B, then the number of examinees in each room is the same. If 20 examinees are sent from B to A, the number of examinees. In A is double the number of examinees in B. Find the number of examinees in each room.
5.A and B, each has a certain number of chocolates. A says to B, “If you give me 30 chocolates, I shall have twice as many as left with you”. B replies, “If you give me 10 chocolates, I shall have thrice as many as left with you”. How many chocolates does everyone has?
6.Solve graphically:
x + y = 0 and 3x – 2y = 10
7.Solve the following system of equations, by elimination method:
x+ y + 2z = 9, 3x + 2y + z = 10, x + 2y + 3z = 14.
8.The sum of numerator and denominator of a fraction is 11. If ‘1’ is added to the numerator and ‘2’ is subtracted from the denominator, it becomes Find the fraction.
9.Solve the following system of equations, by the method of elimination and hence find the value of 4x + 3y + z. 2x + y = 17,
y + 2z = 15, x + y = 9
10.Minu buys half a dozen pencils, 2 erasers and 2 sharpners from a shop and pays Rs.40. From the same shop, Tinu buys 15 pencils, 5 erasers and 3 sharpners and pays Rs.94. Their friend Binu buys a pencil, an eraser and a sharpener for the payment of Rs.10. Find the price of each item.
