School affiliation: mailing address and department.

The poster title and project abstract: follow the format for conference abstracts and papers described on the conference web site (below). The project abstract will be used to pre-screen submissions for acceptance to the student project poster competition. Abstract should be 200 words or less.

Project advisor: name, title, email, phone and mailing address.

o  Key Dates:

§  Abstract Deadline: February 8, 2008

§  Acceptance Notification: February 22, 2008

§  Presenter Registration Deadline: March 7, 2008

2. Prepare a poster for display on a single 36" tall by 24" wide (portrait layout) foam core poster board. Your poster should be pre-mounted on the foam core board for display on an easel or desk (tri-fold display). Presenters should bring their own easel. No other supplies will be provided. There will be space in front of your poster if you wish to bring material to display.

3. Your challenge is to create a poster that effectively communicates the goals, objectives, methods and results of your project work (graduate or undergraduate, capstone, etc). Remember that your audience will almost certainly not be specialists in your area. Many visitors will be students and faculty from other departments. Be prepared to describe what your contributions were, show a few representative results and then give some conclusions in language that a knowledgeable individual with a science/engineering background can understand. Keep equations to a minimum and use graphics to their full advantage. Do not try to tell too much! You might want to bring copies of your Project abstract and/or paper to handout to visitors and to the judges who request a copy the day of the day of the competition.

4. There will be one presentation session during the day on Friday, March 28,2008. The presentation will be from 11:00 a.m. - Noon and from 1:00-3:00 p.m. You will be expected to be at your poster to describe your project and answer questions during the presentation session. Your display must be set up at least 15 minutes prior to the presentation session (10:45a.m.) and must remain up until the end of the presentation session (3:00 p.m.).

5. Competition placement will be based on a comparison of comments from at least five judges. As a result, the judges will spend time talking to you, asking questions and listening to your descriptions of your project and your contributions. The judges will be aware that the projects being presented may not have been completed at the time of competition. As a result demonstrations will not be a component of judging.

6. The selection of the winning presentations will be based on

o  Clarity of poster and oral presentations

o  Overall responses to the judges’ questions

o  Completeness of work

Note: demonstrations will not be a component of judging

Awards will be announced prior to the conference dinner the evening of Friday, March 28, 2008. Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to first, second and third place team members as follows:

o  1st Place: $300

o  2nd Place: $200

o  3rd Place: $100
