Throughout the school year:
Interactive Science Notebook (ISN):
Students need to keep an updated notebook of class notes, warm ups, and labs. You will keep your ISN in your appropriate class crate every day. There will be occasional graded notebook checks throughout the year.
iPads:
We will be using iPads frequently in class this year. You will use your iPad in class for the assignment ONLY. If found playing games, taking pictures, or listening to music, you will lose privileges to use your iPad for that day. iPad use is a privilege, not a right. Be responsible.
Techbook:
You will be given assignments that require you to access our online Techbook. You must keep your login information with you at all times. Keep it in a safe place.
Classroom Expectations:
1. Be in class on time and ready to participate.
2. Bring all supplies every day.
3. Kindness is a priority.
4. Follow directions the first time they are given.
5. Gum is not allowed
Classroom Procedures:
Entering and starting class
Wait outside to be invited in
Go QUIETLY and immediately to your desk before the bell
Read the Agenda on the board
Turn in any homework due
Begin working on the warm up assignment
If you finish before I begin class you may –
1.) Read a book
2.) Organize your binder or notes
3.) Work on your six weeks project
Methods to get class attention: Give me 5 & Marco Polo.
When you hear one of these signals - Stop where you are, turn and face Coach Allen, immediately be quiet and listen.
Restroom– Emergencies only. You will only have 6 restroom passes for all of your classes every 6 weeks. Use them wisely. Try to go during passing periods or lunch.
Room & Lab cleanup– You are responsible for cleaning your messes and lab area before exiting my classroom. When in the lab, Coach Allen will give specific instructions on how to dispose of your materials. Listen closely. If you choose not to clean your mess, you will be asked to stay after class to clean.
Homework and Classroom Assignments
Must be turned in on time to the appropriate period shelf
Must have proper heading (see below)
Headings – All papers that students write must have a heading in the following order on the top right hand side of their paper.
FULL NAME
PERIOD
DATE
TEACHER
Absent– If you are ever absent, it is your responsibility to make up work you missed. When you return, find the day you missed class in the folders on the back wall. If you have questions, first ask your shoulder partner, then if you still have questions ask Coach Allen. You will receive one extra day for each day you miss to turn in work.
*If you missed a test or quiz, you will need to schedule a time during lunch to make up the assessment with Coach Allen.*
Extra Credit– If you would like extra credit in class, you have the option of completing a science current events summary. Directions and template are located in the back of the classroom. This assignment will replace your lowest daily grade and you may complete a max of two (2) current event summaries for extra credit. You MUST turn in your extra credit assignment NO LATER THAN the last MONDAY of the six weeks; any later will not be accepted.
Cheating and Plagiarism
Do your own work! Plagiarism means you use someone else’s work and claim it as your own. There are times you may summarize articles or write reports, everything you write must be in your own words unless properly cited. Cutting and pasting from the internet is plagiarism. Anyone caught cheating will receive an automatic zero and phone call home. You will not be able to replace that zero with the extra credit assignment.
