Activity 1: Me & You

Materials: 2 rubber bands & paper clip

1) Are the rubber bands the same size or different sizes?

2) Form a “ring” out of the paper clip. Attach the 2 rubber bands together using the paper clip ring. (represented by the black circle in the picture below.

3) Each of you should grab one end of the rubber band so that you look like the picture below. NO PULLING YET!!!!

4) Each of you pull equally on the rubber band. Which one stretches more? ______

5) Person 1 pull harder on the rubber band. Which one stretches more? ______

6) Person 2 pull harder on the rubber band. Which one stretches more? ______

7) Perform other rubber band scenarios. Be creative but within proper behavior expectations. Below record what you did & which stretched more.

Activity 2: Me & the wall

Materials: 2 rubber bands 2 paper clips

10) Make a second version of the rubber bands in activity 1 so that each of you has a set of 2 rubber bands joined by a paper clip circle.

11) Attach a paper clip to one of the rubber bands. No need to make a circle.

12) Each of you, hook the new paper clip onto a sink. Pull on the rubber bands while attached to the sink.

13) Repeat this with other immovable things in the room. Be creative but within proper behavior expectations. Below record what you did & which stretched more.

16) Hook the new paper clip onto a mass. Let the mass hang from the rubber bands.
