Summer 2016
Dear Fifth Grader,
Welcome to Saxe Middle School! We are so excited for you to join the Berry/Helmich (formerly Holdorf) team for the 2016-17 school year! While at Saxe, Mrs. Berry will be teaching you math and social studies, and Mrs. Helmich will be teaching you reading and writing. You will also have a different teacher for science and other specials like art, PE, and music. During the first week of school, we will help you to adjust to your new schedule and show you where your classes are, so don’t worry. We can’t wait to start our journey through fifth grade together!
Fifth grade is a FUN but challenging adventure. The best way to start the year is to be organized. Attached is a list of supplies that you will need for your classes. Please label all of your supplies with your first and last name prior to the first day. The color-coding by subjects is optional, but it may help to keep you organized throughout the year. Feel free to drop off any supplies during Meet and Greet, so you don’t have to carry them all on the first day. You do not need to purchase a planner. We will all use the Saxe student planner to record homework. We will give you more information about the cost on the first day.
Another exciting part of 5thgrade is your new locker! If you can, try to practice opening a combination lock over the summer. It can be tricky at first, but with our help and practice, you’ll have it down pat in no time!
By now, we are sure that you have read a biography for your summer reading project. If not, you will want to get started because we will be using your notes during the first week of school. If you need the planning pages or book recommendations, please visit the Saxe homepage. We can’t wait to hear about the person you decided to research!
Since we do not have lunch until 12:30, we suggest bringing in a healthy and filling snack each day. Please make sure that it is nut-free.
We are looking forward to meeting you at the Meet and Greet on August 29thfrom 11:30-12:00. If you can’t make it, we’ll see you on the first day! For now, relax, read, and enjoy the rest of your summer!
Your Teachers,
Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Helmich
