EETD Safety Metrics (Ron)
The committee reviewed the June 2012 Safety Metrics presentation slides.
- Cuts are the most commonly reported accident in the EETD metrics. The committee discussed actions being taken to address. EHS Division into developing a policy document regarding sharps.
- The number of incomplete training assignments has not show much improvement. Regular reminders are being sent out. One issue involves guests that are on-site for a few weeks only, but select work groups that involve up to 10 courses. Action Item: Ron will propose a special JHA work group for short-term guests. Tim will assist in identifying needed basic training and controls.
Self-Assessment Program Update (Ron)
- The self-assessment report for the unwanted chemical removal project has been finalized and submitted.
- A self-assessment regarding hood sash height in the EETD continues and should be completed by the end of the month. Two rounds of baseline sash height data has been obtained. Awareness training is next.
- The Safety Committee discussed future self-assessment projects for inclusion into the 2013 self-assessment plan. Several good ideas were added to the list of proposed projects.
Action Item: Ron will send out a Goggle Survey to the committee so they can vote on the top three self-assessment projects.
Building Emergency Team (BET) Update (Susan)
- The Building 90 BET will need some new members now that ESD is moving out.
- Two small BET radios were purchased for use during Building 90 emergencies.
Old Business (All)
- Bicycle/pedestrian safety was discussed. There is an on-going lab-wide effort. There is a website for reporting traffic concerns ( Ron will put information out to all EETD employees in the next “what’s new” division newsletter.
- Flex Lab update (Susan):
- Moves from the trailers into the 4th floor will start next week and continue through the month. The ergonomics team is being made aware of each move.
- The trailer demolition will start in early September. The shuttle bus stop will be move and route changed slightly. Some parking will also be impacted.
- The entire project is scheduled for completion in October 2013.
New Business (All)
- The recent SAA inspections showed a need for improved self-inspections of the lab areas. Perhaps an electronic format that stores completed inspections into a central database for better tracking. Action Item: Ron will look into an inspection system that JGI is currently using.
- The LBL Safety Advisory Committee (SAC) peer review report for EETD has been completed. It will be distributed to the EETD safety committee for review once it is released.
- The committee is interested in seeing any statistics regarding use of the EHS Division “safety concern” reporting system. Tim will follow-up and see if there is data available on how many concerns are submitted and their status.
