Rules and Expectations

Keep in mind the NEMS Athletic Contract applies! Be familiar with this document!

Passing Grades are required for the Dance Team. Grades will be verified prior to tryouts as well as periodically throughout the season.

A)Practice Expectations:

  1. Dancers should be dressed, ready to warm-up at the start of practice, 3:00 sharp with all necessary items for practice *
  2. If a dancer is absent from practice, it is her responsibility to learn the missed material on her own time, NOT during practice. You will have one week to learn the missed material. (Ex: If you miss a Monday, you must have it learned by the next Monday)*
  3. NO jewelry, food or gum chewing during practice. *
  4. NO pop or sugary drinks before practice (or performance).
  5. Cell phones must be turned off or on silent mode during practice. You may ask us, if you need to contact a parent about a ride. Phones are not to be looked at during breaks at practice. *(on) *(talking)

B)Attendance & Absence Expectations:

  • All Absences must be discussed with the coaches in a reasonable time. If you know you will be absent, tell us as soon as you know. If it is sudden, let us know as soon as possible after. Communication with coaches is key.
  • Every member of the NEMS Dance Team is expected to attend everything on the schedule passed out. *
  • Anything with a three-week notice is required.
  • The following will be excused absences:
  • Personal Illness—If you attended school, you should attend practice.
  • If you are at school at the time of the final bell, you must discuss your plans for practice with one of the coaches. You may be asked to stay at practice and watch/mark positions or be sent home.
  • Death/Serious Illness in the immediate family.
  • Other extenuating circumstances approved by the coach.
  • You should not schedule appointments during practice time. They will not be excused. *
  • A member, who has been required to stop participating due to an injury or illness, must bring a written note explaining the reason for dismissal. We must also receive a note allowing the dancer to return to practice. The member should keep up with information given and routines learned during their absence. If routines are not learned by performance, dancer will not be allowed to perform.
  • Certain events are not just expected, but required. If absent from these, the dancer must be prepared to face the consequences. *

C)Performance Expectations:

  1. Dancers are expected to be dressed with hair and make up completed and begin stretching at every performance at the desired time. *
  2. All dancers are required to remain at all performances the length of time stated by the coach.*
  3. NO jewelry, food or gum chewing during performances. *
  4. There will be no public display of affection by any dancer while in a NEMS Dance Team uniform or at a dance team function. *
  5. Dancers are expected to be at all team functions. Visiting with family is ok for limited times, but visiting with friends/boy friends is not acceptable. *
  6. If the coaches feel a member is not up to par on a routine, including position changes, they may ask the dancer to perform solo to determine whether they will perform or not.

D)Conduct in the School and Community

  1. The NEMS Dance Team represents and supports Noblesville East Middle School. The conduct of the dance team members should be at all times respectful of the member herself, parents, teachers, fellow students, the coaches and others in the community.
  2. Every member of the NEMS Dance Team should keep herself in high esteem personally and academically. The members should conduct themselves in a way that would be appropriate to follow - dance team members are leaders.
  3. All rules and expectations of Noblesville Schools and the Athletic Department will be followed.

E)Discipline

  1. Any actions not following the NEMS Athletic Code or the expectations stated in this document may lead to any of the following consequences:
  2. Verbal warning from the coach
  3. Removal from a performance
  4. Dismissal from the team
  5. Referral to the Athletic Director
  6. Keep in mind any of these disciplinary actions may take place depending on the severity of the behavior.

F)Demerits *

  1. Demerits are given when an action has taken place, which does not follow these guidelines. They are not meant to hurt you, but make each of you responsible and not disappoint your team.
  2. The accumulation of demerits are as follows:
  3. 1-3 demerits= Verbal warning they are approaching 4 and a note sent to parents.
  4. 4 demerits= Phone call to the parent and removal from performance
  5. 5 demerits= Removal from the team
  6. A dancer who has been removed from the team due to disciplinary actions will not be allowed to try out for the team again.
