Suggested additions to include provision for disabled athletes

FIELD GUIDE

P3Under UKA Rule book add:

For disabled athletes the official International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Rules and Regulations with supporting documents are available on the IPC Athletics website:

A simplified version of rules for disabled athletes related to the UKA rules is included in the above UKA rule book.

P5Amend from eight to: There are nine field events

Five throws (to include Club Throw)

Consider having (seated or ambulant) in brackets next to the Shot/Discus & Javelin.

P10Need to consider how amending this table to include sample duties for club throw & other seated throws.

P11Tips – Include a paragraph to state:

Disabled athletes may require additional support to do their event. i.e. a caller for blind and visually impaired athletes, alternative method to indicate when it is an athletes turn to throw or jump, or assistance with tie downs for seated throwers. As before, it is wise to read the relevant event rules in the UKA or IPC rule book before a competition which includes events for disabled athletes.

P5Judging duties. After 1st paragraph add:

For wheelchair races athletes should be placed in the order in which the axle of the leading wheel reaches the vertical plane of the nearer edge of the finish line. For athletes running with a guide runner you are only judging the torso of the athlete NOT the guide. The athlete must cross the line in front of the guide or the athlete will be disqualified.

PlusConsider including an image of a disabled athlete. Maybe a wheelchair racer or visually impaired runner.
