MATERNITY PAY ENTITLEMENT

Introduction

This information is intended as guidance only based on your terms and conditions of employment and length of service and should not be relied upon when planning your maternity leave. Your entitlement will be less than that stated below if your average weekly pay is below the lower earnings limit for National Insurance contributions.

HR will write to employees to confirm your exact entitlements once your completed Notification of Maternity Leave Form and MATB1 have been received.

Throughout the document EWC refers to the ‘Expected Week of Confinement’ as cited on your MATB1.

Teachers

Less than 6 months service at 15th Week before EWC

You will be entitled to Maternity Allowance, as follows:

Weeks 1 to 39: Maternity Allowance from the Benefit Agency

Weeks 40 to 52: Unpaid maternity leave

Between 26 and 51 weeks service at 11th Week before EWC

You will be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay, as follows:

Weeks 1 to 4: Full pay

Weeks 5 to 6: 90% pay

Weeks 7 to 39: Statutory Maternity Pay which equates to £136.78 per week

(not exceeding full pay)

Weeks 40 to 52: Unpaid maternity leave

NB: Maternity Allowance: is payable at a flat rate for 39 weeks or a weekly rate equal to 90% of your average earnings if that is less. To get Maternity allowance, you must be employed or self-employed in any 26 out of 66 weeks ending the week before the baby is due and earn £102.00 on average.

You will be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay (and possible Occupational Pay depending on earnings), as follows:

If returning to work

Weeks 1 to 4: Full pay

Weeks 5 to 6: 90% of normal pay

Weeks 7 to 18: Statutory Maternity Pay which equates to £136.78 per week

(not exceeding full pay)

Weeks 7 to 18: Occupational Maternity Pay currently at 50% normal pay

Weeks 19 to 39: Statutory Maternity Pay currently at £136.78 per week

(not exceeding full pay)

Weeks 40 to 52: Unpaid maternity leave

Please note that if you do not intend to return to work once your maternity leave has expired, you may be liable to repay the occupational maternity pay, which is 12 weeks of half pay.

If not returning to work

Weeks 1 to 4: Full pay

Weeks 5 to 6: 90% of normal pay

Weeks 7 to 39: Statutory Maternity Pay currently at £136.78 per week

Support Staff
