Incidental fees and charges incurred by students are governed by the Higher Education Support Act and implemented at the University in accordance with the UWA Policy forIncidental Student Fees and Charges. :
General Principles
Commonwealth supported students and domestic-fee paying students generally must be able to complete the requirements of their course of study without the imposition of fees that are additional to student contribution amounts or tuition fees except in the following circumstances:
- NE: Non-Essential; “For a good or services that are not essential to the course of study”
- AF: Alternative Forms; “For alternative forms of access to a good or service that is an
essential component of the course of study, but is otherwise made readily available at no additional charge by the University”
- FP: Fine or Penalty; “The fee is a fine or penalty, provided it is imposed principally as a disincentive and not in order to raise revenue or cover administrative costs”
- TP: Third Party; “For a service imposed and charged by a third party (for example: first aid certificates, criminal record checks or immunisation costs”
- EG (a), (b), (c) or (d ): Essential Goods, “For an essential good or service that the student has the choice of acquiring from a supplier other than the University and is for:
(a)equipment or items that become the physical property of the student and that are not consumed during the course of study and have some value in use after graduation; or
(b)food and accommodation costs associated with the provision of field trips in Western Australia that are outside the metropolitan area that form part of the study; or
(c)food, travel and accommodation costs associated with the provision of field trips that are within the metropolitan area, interstate or overseas; or
(d)food, travel and accommodation costs associated with study abroad
In addition to the fees listed above it is expected that students will incur additional costs for day to day items which are considered consumable i.e., items that students would normally use as part of study; pens/paper etc.

School Level Charges
Graduate School of Education
Graduate School of Educations’ Initial Teacher Education Numeracy Competency Test / All Initial Teacher Education students [Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education] in the Graduate Diploma of Education and Master of Teaching must demonstrate their numeracy competency. This competency is required by AITSL, the teacher accreditation body. The fee covers access to the online program to improve skills if a student fails the Graduate School of Education’s (GSE) Initial Teacher Education numeracy competency test. Participation in the online program is optional, and there is no charge to re-sit the GSE test. / $20 / NE
Graduate School of Education’s Initial Teacher Education Literacy Competency Test / All Initial Teacher Education students [Primary, Early Childhood and Secondary Education] sin the Graduate Diploma of Education and Master of Teaching must demonstrate their literacy competency. This competency is required by AITSL, the teacher accreditation body. The fee covers access to the online program to improve skills if a student fails the Graduate School of Education’s (GSE) Initial Teacher Education literacy competency test. Participation in the online program is optional, and there is no charge to re-sit the GSE test. / $32.95 / NE
Department of Education Criminal Check Clearance / All students participating in a professional practice placement must obtain a Department of Education Criminal Check Clearance.. The fee is set by the Department of Education and may be increased at any time. / $46 / TP
Working with Children Check / All students participating in a professional practice placement must obtain a Working With Children Check. The fee is set by the Department of Child Protection and may be increased at any time. An increase is foreshadowed for 01 July 2015, however an amount has not yet been advised. / $11.00 / TP

Rural Field Trip / Contribution to cost of 6 day field trip. The field trip is a non-compulsory component of the unit. / $240 / EG(b) and NE

Student Name Badges / Name badges are essential to enter a school on placement as determined by the Department of Education, the Catholic Education Office of WA and the Association of Independent Schools of WA. The name badge must clearly show who the student is and where they are from. Whilst having a name badge is compulsory, this fee is only for a UWA endorsed option. Students are still welcome to provide their own badge at a low cost or use a free plastic badge from the Graduate School of Education. Replacement badges on an individual basis incur a higher cost. / $9 / AF
