Officer Candidate Requirements

2010-2011

Officer Candidates must:

1.  Provide a complete application, officer contract, officer demerit system, and requirements (signed), by March 30 at 3pm to Mr. Ressler. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

2.  Attend the April 12th FFA Meeting and present an Officer Election Speech @ 6pm in official dress.

  1. Speeches should be motivational and informative. All speech content should be School appropriate. Any inappropriate speech material may be subject grounds for disqualification.
  2. Attend an interview, in official dress, on Thursday April 8th @ 4pm at the Ag Center.
  3. An Officer Test will be conducted on Thursday April 8th @ 5pm at the Ag Center.
  4. Test will consist of questions from the Blue FFA Manual and Yellow Parliamentary Guide.
  5. Detention, CIA, and Poor Overall conduct are not acceptable.
  6. Any extenuating circumstance should be brought to the Advisor prior to March 30, and they will be reviewed at that time.
  7. Agree to Officer Election Procedures set forth in the Deer Park FFA Constitution
  8. 35% Test
  9. 35% Interview
  10. 30% Popular Vote
  11. Voting will be held on April 12 during the monthly FFA Meeting. Only current paid FFA members may vote.
  12. Agree to serving on the officer team in any Officer position and with any person that is elected.

One more time:

·  Speeches will be Monday April 12 @ 6pm during the FFA Meeting.

·  Interview will be held Thursday April 8th @ 4pm

·  Test will be administered Thursday April 8th @ 5pm

·  Test will be over FFA Manual, Parliamentary Procedure

·  Limited positive campaigning will be allowed, but if deemed inappropriate by the Advisors, campaigning will cease, and candidate may be removed.

·  Officer applications may be typed

·  Candidates may provide a résumé with application

Deer Park FFA Officer Demerit System

2010-2011

5+ minutes late to officer mtg. (1 mtg per month) / 1 demerit
Miss an FFA meeting / 3 demerits
Failure of any class (follows UIL guidelines) / 3 demerits (per six-weeks)
Not participating in a FFA Chapter Fundraiser
(1 per semester) / 2 demerits
Not participating in community service activity / 2 demerits
Late to any required chapter activity / 1 demerit
Not wearing officer shirt on meeting days / 1 demerit
Missing official dress when required / 2 demerits
Indecorum (Poor choices in behavior, actions, character, and/or responsibilities) / minimum of 3 demerits
maximum of 6 at Advisor discretion
Failure to Complete Officer Responsibilities / 3 demerits
Assignment to DAEP during Officer Term / Immediate Removal from Office
Assignment to ISS during Officer Term
(per assignment) / 3 demerits

After 6 demerits you will be placed on probation. If you earn 1 more demerit (equaling 7) you will be removed from the officer team for the remainder of the school year. This contract is active once you are elected to an officer position. Demerits accumulate and remain effective from May 2010 – May 2011. The only allowable exceptions to the guidelines above will be other School Sponsored Activities and Work, and these exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Merit points may be earned for outstanding individual efforts at the discretion of the FFA Advisors, with the exception of Demerits earned for Failure of Class. It is your responsibility to request Merit Activities if you choose to pursue them. You are required to abide by this system and the contract rules for your term as a Deer Park FFA Officer.

This system is designed to encourage PREMIER LEADERSHIP, PERSONAL GROWTH, and CAREER SUCCESS in our FFA Officer’s by providing minimum standard expectations for holding a position of leadership within our chapter.

Officer Contract 2010-2011

As a Deer Park FFA Officer Candidate, I agree to the following terms:

1.  Officers will be elected based on the procedure set forth in the Chapter Constitution.

2.  Officers will attend, and be present at EVERY FFA meeting in official dress, at least 1 hour before the meeting is scheduled to begin.

3.  Officers will attend the State FFA Convention (July 12-16), District Officer Camp (June 24-25), and a Program Of Activities planning camp this summer (TBA in August).

4.  Officers must participate in 2 Major Fundraisers sponsored by Deer Park FFA.

5.  Officers will perform the duties specific to their offices, and also those duties required of the officer team.

a.  Officers failing to meet these requirements may be removed from the officer team per the Officer Demerit System.

6.  Officers will follow the FFA Code of Ethics.

a.  Any officer violating a school rule, which could result in disciplinary action can be removed from the officer team immediately. (Subject to Demerit System)

7.  Officers will represent themselves, and the Deer Park FFA in a positive manner at all times.

a.  If this is not accomplished, officers will be removed from the officer team per the Officer Demerit System and according to Advisor Discretion.

8.  Officers should give 110% to the improvement of Deer Park FFA

As an Officer Candidate, I have read the above terms and understand that this is ONLY a minimum outline of what is expected of me. Specific and subjective violations of this contract will be determined by the Advisors. I completely understand that this contract DOES NOT outline every circumstance that could be a violation of this agreement. I realize the HIGH expectations that come with this office. I accept the challenge and will give Deer Park FFA my BEST effort. I further agree that the Deer Park FFA Officer team has a PROUD TRADITION OF INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE. I fully understand and agree that if I fail to meet the terms of this contract, I will be removed from this office.
