Monday – Lesson 1-7 Students will review last week’s skills. They will then be given a number on an index card and will be asked by the teacher to get in order form least to greatest in front of the class. Students will complete this activity a second time with a different number but this time they will not be able to talk to each other. Students will then use a recording sheet to help order numbers through the use of place value. After completing the guided practice with the teacher, they will be able to complete the independent practice on their own. The teacher will review for tomorrow’s test. (if time doesn’t permit the test will be held off till Wednesday.)
Tuesday-Students will take notes on properties of addition. They will create a foldable of these definitions. Students will be given counters to show representation of each property with the teacher as the guide. Students will continue to practice this skill by completing the re-teaching and practice master in the workbook.
Wednesday-Students will discuss fact family for subtraction and addition. They will also complete exercises on subtracting larger numbers to check their understanding of regrouping. Students will take notes on part and whole. They will learn how to subtract by setting up bar diagrams. Students will discuss using mental math to add.
Thursday: Students will learn how to use mental math to subtract. Students will use place value blocks to gain a deeper understanding of mental math.
Friday- Students will listen to a rap about rounding on youtube. Students will take notes on rounding then try to learn the song to memorize the steps. Students will work a couple problems on their own. An exit question will be given at the end of class to check for understanding.
*Students will complete Daily Math 4 Today at beginning of each class period.
*Students will complete Daily Common Core Review at the end of each class period.
Homework will be given as needed!
