Western Teacher Education Student Teaching Placements

Spring 2008

Placements are organized in alphabetical order by the name of the accepting school district. If complete information is not available, this means that the host district/school has not provided the information as of this date. If you have school/principal contact information provided, please contact your host school as soon as you can and no later than January 14, 2008 to introduce yourself to the building principal and your cooperating teacher. I am posting on my website a letter to/for your cooperating teacher. Also at this introductory visit, make sure you address issues of sign-in procedures, identification badge needs, parking, lunch and school schedule issues. The school secretary and your contact person can be invaluable in assisting you with this information. To assist the Western Education Department in verifying your placement, please take the Host School Information Sheet to this introductory visit and return a copy to the education office by January 21, 2008.

In addition to learning of your placement, please note that student teaching placement for elementary and middle school majors begins on January 28 and continues through April 25, 2008. Elementary/middle school student teachers return to Missouri Western for ongoing seminar support on days determined by Dr. Edwards.

Secondary student teachers (9-12 and K-12 certifications) begin student teaching on February 4 and continue until April 25, 2008.

3)EDU 408 and EDU 409 Experience in Teaching III syllabus – review prior to spring coursework. You may want to give a copy to your cooperating teacher at your introductory visit to the school.

Please remember that all placements are tentative and dependent upon your ability to meet department requirements (GPA – 2.5, department approval, passing the PRAXIS II content test, supervision fee (if applicable) and criminal background check on file). Take the student teaching syllabus, host school information sheet, criminal background check form (you can get a copy from the Education Office) and welcome letter to your cooperating teacher. Be sure you determine whether you should give the criminal background check form to the building principal or administrative office (superintendent’s office). Also many districts are now requiring fingerprint checks and health/TB screenings for student teaching. Those districts are generally in the St. Louis area, and the ParkHillSchool District, Liberty, and ShawneeMissionSchool District in the Kansas City area. You will need to comply with their request for this information.
