Mosby Woods PTA Meeting

Meeting Highlights
1.)Welcome and Call to Order
- Meeting started promptly at 6:30pm.
- Each person in attendance did a quick introduction and shared what grade level their kids were in at Mosby Woods.
2.)Report from Administration and Staff:
- October 20th: 2nd Grade will have an open house for parent to see their latest projects using the PBL system.
- Every grade will be integrating PBL into their curriculum, and parents will have an opportunity to see their work at different times throughout the year.
- October 28th: Annual “Walk for the Homeless”.
- This is the 13th year that Mosby has raised awareness and money for the homeless. In total over $200K!!
- Walk for the Homeless in support of Lamb Center and kids here at Mosby Woods.
- Encourage kids to find ways to raise and donate their own monies (for example: donating a portion of their allowance, lemonade stands, etc.).
- Kids and families walk around the field.
- Learn about homeless in America in class, and share poetry writing the day of the walk.
- Stress making good choices to avoid homelessness.
- Parents and siblings are welcome to join!
- The Lamb Centeris a non-profit organization working to serve the poor and homeless, and transformlives.

- November 7th: Parent Teacher Conferences.
- Many teachers are planning to meet with parents before the 7th to accommodate that only one day has been set aside to meet with families.
- There are other options beside in person meetings to include Skype; Face Time; or by phone.
- November 11th: Veterans Day
- Great learning opportunity for the kids at Mosby Woods.
- The students write letters to our veterans thanking them for their service to our country.
- Some grades will have a veteran come to class and talk about their experiences.
- November 15th: American Math Competition AMC 8: Grades 4, 5, and 6 are welcome to participate.
- Comment made by one participant that it would be helpful if more information about the Math Competition was on the Moby Woods Website.
- News You Choose: Brand new newsletter/communication that will go out on the 3rd Wednesday of the month via email from Dr. Aste.
- Mosby Matters will continue to be distributed the 1st Wednesday of the month.
- Recess Update:
- A meeting is coming up from facilities to address the challenges with the space outside for your children to enjoy during recess.
- They will draft a proposal in the November time frame with several options for the school to consider for the next 1 to 3 years to include:
- New blacktop area
- New playground equipment
3.)Presidents Report.
- Committee Update:
- Check Writing Campaign
- Good start so far, with $1,500 raised in 6 days!!
- Recommended by one participant that it would be helpful to list specifically what the money will go towards.
- Good feedback so far from families on this type of fundraiser.
- Goal this year is to raise $20,000!!!
- School Supplies:
- Sprout is a local company that provides schools with supplies. Pro’s to switching companies:
- Supporting a local company.
- Online ordering available through August 1st!!
- Pricing is similar.
- Will take paper orders.
- Get to select delivery dates.
- PTA voted to switch to Sprout to provide school supplies next school year.
- Movie Nights: First movie night well attended, however need to think through the best way moving forward if participation continues to be high to accommodate large number of people.
- Restaurant Nights– Dickey’s Barbeque
- October 25th is our first restaurant night for the school year.
- Bring the flyer with your class name to the restaurant, and the class with most participants gets a free catered lunch in class!!
- Special Education Resources
- PTA has dedicated a page on the website with updated resources, dates for seminars, and materials.
- Please keep an eye out on upcoming events!!
Volunteers Needed:
- Bingo Night – November 11th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
- PTA is pounding the pavement to get gift cards from local area vendors to give out to winners!!
- Gift card donations will also be accepted.
- Teachers will participate in this event to include calling out the numbers.
- A sign-up genius is forthcoming.
- Spring Fling – this will replace Fall Ball.
- Community event that is popular with the kids!
4.)Financial Report:
- An overview of the managing the financials was provided.
- A budget was approved for the upcoming year.
