SUBJECT: In Memory of James H. Creel, Jr., MD, FACEP

WHEREAS, The specialty of emergency medicine and the State of Tennessee lost a compassionate physician, dedicated educator and leader, friend, and colleague in James H. Creel, Jr., MD, FACEP, who passed away suddenly on November 30, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel's service to the emergency medicine and emergency medical services community spanned more than 35 years in the greater Chattanooga area; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel demonstrated an unparalleled dedication to his patients while expecting the same of all of those on his healthcare team; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel was a nationally recognized pioneer and leader in EMS who served as the medical director for many EMS agencies; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel served as an examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine for more than 26 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel served in multiple roles at the Baroness Erlanger Hospital and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, including Chief of Staff, Division Chief, Department Chair, and Chief Medical Officer; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel demonstrated his vision and dedication to emergency medicine education in 2008, when he established the emergency medicine residency program and became program director at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel also founded the first EMS fellowship in Tennessee in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel has touched countless lives as a physician, educator, leader, role model, mentor, colleague, friend, and devoted husband and father; and
WHEREAS, Dr Creel helped shape emergency medicine of today and tomorrow through his insight, vision, dedication, leadership, and enthusiasm; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the American College of Emergency Physicians fondly remembers and honors the many contributions of James H. Creel, Jr., MD, FACEP, one of the truest pioneers and leaders in emergency medicine and emergency medical services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the American College of Emergency Physicians extends to the family of James H. Creel, Jr., MD, FACEP, his colleagues, friends, residents, staff, and students our heartfelt condolences and gratitude for his tremendous accomplishments, devotion, and service to the specialty of emergency medicine, the State of Tennessee, and the United States of America.
