Abstract:We study a competition-diffusion-advection system for two competitive species inhabiting a spatially heterogeneous environment. We show that they spatially segregate as the interspecific competition rate tends to infinity. Besides, by using a blow up method, we obtain the uniform Ho¨lder bounds for solutions of the system. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:ZnS ceramics were successfully synthesized by the solid-state reaction method under different conditions. The structural transformation of ZnS ceramics from zinc-blende to hexagonal wurtzite was observed with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD). The hexagonal wurtzite ZnS ceramics with much better quality were obtained at a sintering temperature of 1100 °C and for 100 min sintering time, meanwhile the relative density reaches 94%. Room temperature photoluminescence measurements with 325 nm excitation showed four emission bands, that is, the near band edge (NBE) emission band at ∼342 nm, the emission band of ∼407 nm from the sulfur vacancies, the emission peak at 488 nm which was explained as the radioactive transition from the conduction band to the energy level of zinc vacancies, and the green emission band at 525 nm which was attributed to the recombination of electrons from the energy level of sulfur vacancies with the holes from the line or surface defects. The observed green PL emission of the wurtzite-type ZnS ceramics could provide an interesting application in the development of novel luminescent devices. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Rough set theory is a useful mathematical tool for dealing with the uncertainty and granularity in information systems. In this paper, rough approximations are introduced into quantales, a kind of partially ordered algebraic structure with an associative binary multiplication. The notions of (upper, lower) rough (prime, semi-prime, primary) ideals of quantales are proposed and verified to be the extended notions of usual (prime, semi-prime, primary) ideals of quantales respectively. Global order properties of all lower (upper) rough ideals of a quantale are also investigated. The rough radical of an upper rough ideal in a quantale is defined and the prime radical theorem of rings is generalized to upper rough ideals of quantales. Some results about homomorphic images of rough ideals and rough prime ideals of semigroups and rings are also generalized and improved in the field of quantales. © 2012 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:By using the method of exact diagonalization, we investigated the properties of the distorted mixed spin (1, 1/2) diamond chain with antiferromagnetic interactions along the rung and leg. The ground states of this model contain the sawtooth chain state and the rung dimer plus Haldane state. The research on the origin of the spin gap of the model discloses that there are three different types of spin excitations at different parameter regimes due to the competition among the interactions J<inf>1</inf>, J<inf>2</inf> and J <inf>3</inf>. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:The Bro¨nsted acidic ionic liquids N-carboxymethylpyridine hydrosulphate ([CH<inf>2</inf>COOHPy][HSO<inf>4</inf>]) and N- carboxyethylpyridine hydrosulphate ([(CH<inf>2</inf>)<inf>2</inf>COOHPy] [HSO<inf>4</inf>]) were synthesized and used as the extractant and catalyst for the extractionoxidation desulfurization of model oil. The structures of the ILs were confirmed by <sup>1</sup>H NMR and <sup>13</sup>C NMR. The density, viscosity and acid strength of the ILs were also investigated. The acid strength was in order of H<inf>2</inf>SO<inf>4</inf> (98%) [CH<inf>2</inf>COOHPy] [HSO<inf>4</inf>] > [(CH<inf>2</inf>)<inf>2</inf>COOHPy][ HSO<inf>4</inf>]. The [CH<inf>2</inf>COOHPy][HSO<inf>4</inf>] showed better activity during the removal of dibenzothiophene (DBT) in n-octane by a combination of extraction and oxidation, and the sulfur removal reached 99.9% under the conditions of V <inf>model oil</inf> = 20 mL, V<inf>IL</inf> = 1.2 mL, T= 30 °C and H <inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>/S molar ratio (O/S) = 6. In the same conditions, the removal of benzothiophene (BT) and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) by using [CH<inf>2</inf>COOHPy][HSO<inf>4</inf>] reached 82.5% and 89.1%, respectively. Ionic liquid [CH<inf>2</inf>COOHPy][HSO<inf>4</inf>] can be recycled 9 times without a significant decrease in the sulfur removal. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Lysozyme from hen egg white is a well-known antimicrobial protein with high ratio of hydrophobic and positively charged amino acid residues. In order to explore functional bioactivities of enzymatic hydrolysates of lysozyme, the protein was subjected to a simulated gastrointestinal digestion and the resulting hydrolysate (LPH2) showed a strong competitive angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity (IC<inf>50</inf> = 12.6 μg/ml) and a remarkable antioxidant activity. The LPH2 was fractionated using a 3 kDa cut-off membrane and the obtained permeate LPH2-3 kDa was analysed by MALDI-TOF-TOF MS. Using this technology, 38 different peptides were identified and some of these peptides were well fit with structure requirements of ACE inhibitory peptides and/or antioxidant peptides. The findings from this study suggest that the protein containing high proportion of hydrophobic and positively charged residues have the potential to generate multifunctional peptides, and these peptides would be beneficial ingredient to be used in functional foods. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:The electrical performance of single cell of anode-supported planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) received much concern. In this paper, measurement principle, design method and experimental processes of the electrical performance test device for SOFC single cell were introduced. The fluid system of the device consisted of flowmeters, valves, tubes, furnace, etc. The measurement system of the device consisted of digital direct current voltage meter, chromatography work station, and industrial computer, etc. The operator could aquire the test data by the electronic load and work station operation software in the industrial computer. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Abstract:Electrochemical impedance immunosensor, with its high sensitivity from electrochemical impedance analysis and ideal specificity from the immunoassay, is increasingly used in the detection of a kind of phenoxy acid herbicides which is 2,4-Dichlorophenoxybutyric acid (2,4-DB). In this experiment, synthetic 2,4-DB antibodies were immobilized on the electrode by the crosslinking of l-Cysteine/glutaraldehyde, and 2,4-DB were measured by the increase of electron-transfer resistance when the immune reaction occurred, with Fe(CN) <inf>6</inf<sup>3-</sup>/Fe(CN)<inf>6</inf<sup>4-</sup> as the probe. Under optimal conditions, the change of resistance is in a linear relationship with the logarithm of the concentration in the range of 1.0×10 <sup>-7</sup>-1.0×10<sup>-3</sup> g/L (R=0.994) with the detection limit of 1.0×10<sup>-7</sup> g/L (0.1 ppb). This method bears such merits as simplicity in operation, high sensitivity, wide linear range, specificity, reproducibility and good stability. The actual soybean samples were analyzed with the recovery of 82.8%-102.3%. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A core-shell structure of stable cobalt (Co) nanosized particles (NPs) was synthesized, in which the core was hcp Co and the shell was amorphous Co. An anionic surfactant, sodium bis-2-ethylhexyl-sulfosuccinate (AOT), was used as a template. Hollow sphere-like structures were obtained. These structures were self-assembled by the core-shell structure of magnetic Co NPs. Magnetic properties of the sample were studied by using VSM. A novel result was obtained in which these hollow sphere-like structures with small surface areas exhibited excellent water treatment performance for organic dyes, such as methyl orange. The maximum adsorption capacity was calculated to be 193.3 mg/g, which is higher than that of the samples reported in our previous study with higher BET surface area. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.
