MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To plan, source and/or produce high-quality, creative and engaging digital content and online resources, including images, banners and graphics, animations, audio, video, and other multimedia for use:

-  on the Samaritans website and social media channels, across campaigns and within email communications to increase engagement amongst our key audiences.

-  by Samaritans volunteers and branches across their owned, paid and earned channels.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION

·  Reports to the Digital Communications Manager

·  Works alongside other members of the Digital Communications team

·  Consults and works closely with the Design & Brand team

·  Liaises with volunteers requesting digital content support

SCOPE OF JOB

·  Identify and produce creative and engaging digital content to support Samaritans’ digital communications objectives

·  Respond and deliver on volunteer / branch requests for digital content development

  • Support digital fundraising activity with engaging and innovative multimedia content
  • Champion digital content creation across the organisation, implementing an organisation-wide content gathering and creation process and taking responsibility for digital asset management
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with external suppliers of video and digital content services
  • Monitor and report on content effectiveness, reach and engagement
  • Develop team and wider organisational knowledge and understanding of digital content, it’s benefits and uses
  • General duties of a Samaritans’ staff member

DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

  • Works to objectives, budgets and plans set by Digital Communications Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Preferably graduate, ideally in multimedia design, digital content production, or similar

·  Additional qualifications and/or significant experience in key software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, is essential

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

·  Ability to schedule, script, storyboard, record/shoot, edit and produce audio and video content

·  Ability to plan, shoot and edit photographic content

·  Ability to conceive, design and build other graphics-based content, including dynamic images, banners, interactive graphs and infographics and other multimedia content as required

·  Strong understanding of digital communications, content strategy, digital design, accessibility, UX, usability and SEO

·  Strong understanding of social media platforms, their technical specifications and the content formats they support and optimise. Including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Google+

·  Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, web CMS’s (Drupal and Confluence an advantage)

·  An understanding of digital copywriting and publishing

·  Ability to proactively suggest new digital solutions and present innovative ideas to maximise our presence online

·  Knowledge of the current digital landscape and emerging trends

·  Knowledge of digital fundraising and best use of content for acquisition and engagement is desirable

·  Experience of working within the charity sector and/or within volunteer-led organisations an advantage

·  Demonstrable experience of:

-  planning, editing and creating user-centric multimedia content for distribution across multiple platforms

-  using multimedia content as an emotive and engaging storytelling medium to sensitively engage with vulnerable people, such as adults with mental health issues, including those with depression and suicidal thoughts

-  developing content that adheres to corporate visual and editorial guidelines

-  setting appropriate performance metrics and developing digital engagement reports

-  interpersonal and team working skills, to be able to clearly and concisely communicate aims, creative approach, priorities and concerns

-  managing a broad range of digital assets effectively

-  planning and scheduling content, both as part of an ongoing content strategy as well as within integrated communications campaigns

PART 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify and produce creative and engaging content to support Samaritans’ digital communications objectives

·  Work with the Digital Communications Manager and Head of Team to identify and prioritise organisational digital content needs and contribute to the development of an effective content strategy

·  Produce engaging, thoughtful digital content and resources for use across the website, in email communications, on social media and in digital advertising

  • Manage the team digital content and editorial calendar, working with staff teams and the volunteer network to identify content needs, gaps and requirements and to plan and schedule new content accordingly
  • Work with the Digital Communications Manager to identify opportunities and pilot new digital content formats and/or platforms
  • Attendance at events and campaign launches is required for the purpose of capturing multimedia content – a flexible approach to travel and non-standard working hours is required

Respond and deliver on volunteer / branch requests for digital content development

·  Respond positively and swiftly to all digital content and production requests received from volunteers and branches

·  Take briefs, brainstorm solutions, present roughs or visuals, research and manage production, respond to feedback and deliver final content to clients on time and to budget

·  Produce and amend digital content for use by Samaritans branches, in line with briefs and deadlines

·  Work with volunteers and branches to co-create digital assets for use across the website and their Twitter accounts

·  Offer a high level of customer service to branches and volunteers

Support digital fundraising activity with engaging and innovative multimedia content

·  Work with the Digital Communications Manager and Fundraising teams to develop effective and engaging content in support of digital fundraising and communications activity

·  Support effective reporting of content performance by the Digital Communications Manager and Fundraising teams

Champion digital content creation across the organisation, implementing an organisation-wide content gathering and creation process and taking responsibility for digital asset management

  • Work with the Digital Communications Manager to develop, implement and manage an effective approach to content procurement across the Central Charity and the Nations
  • Work with the Digital Communications Manager to develop, implement and manage a devolved content creation methodology for branches and volunteers

·  Consolidate all digital assets into a centralised hub for better management and control of assets

·  Manage Samaritans’ digital content assets as used for all channels and platforms

Manage the day-to-day relationship with external suppliers of video and digital content services

  • Brief and source quotes from agreed suppliers as needed
  • Ensure accuracy of specifications, estimates and other documentation at each stage, to clearly communicate delivery instructions and ensure adherence to timings
  • Maintain positive relationships with suppliers
  • Raise any concerns about supplier pricing, processes or standards with the Digital Communications Manager at an early stage

Monitor and report on content effectiveness, reach and engagement

  • Work with the Digital Communications Manager to agree performance metrics and develop processes and practices to regularly report on digital content performance across all channels and platforms

Develop team and wider organisational knowledge and understanding of digital content, its benefits and uses

·  Keep up-to-date with trends and developments in digital content (formats and platforms of distribution), particularly their role in supporting those struggling to cope

·  Provide training and support to staff and branches creating/sourcing their own digital content

General Duties of a Samaritans’ Staff Member

·  Devise and maintain appropriate administrative processes to support all of the above

·  Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the General Office as appropriate

·  Participate, as appropriate, in staff forums and meetings

·  Adhere to all Samaritans’ Policies and Procedures

·  Represent the General Office appropriately across the movement and Samaritans to the wider community as appropriate

·  Treat all colleagues, volunteers and members of the public with dignity and work within and adhere to Samaritans’ equal opportunities statement and polices
