ELAC will offer Logistics classes this spring. The Logistics certificate was approved locally, but will not go to the regional consortium. The AA degree is in process. *
(Correction 1-14-08
Southwest is planning coursework with a Cisco program with a basic skills element, which will work in partnership with Trade Tech. This is not a certificate or degree program.
There was a question regarding the CAA Grant and what basic skills work was being done by colleges involved. East provided the information that they are using the funds for textbooks, curriculum development, IDGs, etc.
Forms are being prepared for Deans to use when the have a program to announce to the group as well as a form to use for completing the VTEA Quarterly Reports.
Budget Reports (standing item)
SAP budget reports by college for Basic Skills 10413, 10414 and VTEA 10595 (with expenditure analysis) were provided in the meeting packet. The Deans were asked to carefully review budget for allowable expenditures and accounts. Discussion on the use of funds followed with the question of equipment vs. furniture. The example of chairs that are designed specifically for use with a particular machine was brought up. These chairs were clearly equipment, but in come cases it is not so clear, especially with computer work stations.
Audit Update
The findings report has not been made available for review. It was suggested that a workshop on Supplement/Supplant might be beneficial at the district. Possibly have Chuck Wisely conduct and include participants from college Deans, Faculty, and Staff.
Aves Scholarship Update
The finalized list has been sent to Foundation for review and to begin processing the award checks. The checks will be sent to the college contact person for distribution to the students. An estimated delivery date was not available at the time of the meeting.
COE Update-Lisa Lewenberg
Lisa Lewenberg attended to give information on the COE Green Building Scan, the recent report that she has completed with John Green of BW Research.
She also gave information on CC Benefits and discussed the usefulness of the program for finding information for grants, and reports. She was able to inform the group that for those that would like to have access to the system can contact Lisa for a user ID and password.
Nursing & Allied Health Grants
RFA specifications for the grant were in the packets. A meeting was held at the district on December 11, to discuss and plan the proposal process. Letters of Intent were sent to the Chancellor’s Office for three grants: 07-124, 07-125, and 07-126. The attendees at the meeting agreed to apply for the 07-125 grant- Equipment Funds for Nursing and Allied Health Programs. Although only East and West attended the preliminary meeting, from the discussion it was clear that more colleges are interested in participating. College representatives will prepare the proposal with assistance from the District WFD office.
WFD Awards
The nomination form has been made available to the colleges by email and hard copy. Betina will work with Qui, IT, to post it and other updated on the Awards website. A save-the-date email has been sent to Deans, College Presidents, and Chancellor for Thursday, May 8th and it seems they are available to attend.
Trade-Tech has agreed to host the Awards Luncheon. Diane has assured them that we will do all we can to ensure they receive payment on time, including pre-payment of invoice.
The next step in the planning process is to recruit readers/evaluators for the nominations. More details to follow.
This year 2nd and 3rd place awards will be given.
Perkins IV Workshop
There was a reminder of the January 11th * training day for Perkins 1V that will be presented by Chuck Wisely of the System Office. This is for regions VII and VIII (LOWDL) Colleges were reminded to let their MIS departments know also.
*The workshop date has been postponed to until January 30, please plan accordingly.
CTE Career Brochures – Lynn Winter Gross
Lynn shared with the group the revisions to the brochure as provided by the Deans. This version of the brochure is smaller in size and is designed for student use.
It was suggested that individual college brochures also be developed to promote more campus and student life.
Aves Scholarship Information
All information has been given to the Foundation. Betina asked for the correct person (Dean or VP) at each college to receive the checks for students. It was strongly suggested not to tell the students when they would receive the checks, since they are often later than expected. Thank you letters are very important. Colleges discussed the ways they honored the recipients at the end of the year.
CTE Community Collaborative
The grant opportunity was discussed, and all colleges are interested in participating. The question was whether more than one project could be awarded per district? Mission has already completed their letter of intent and is ready to send. They will wait to hear from John Clerx. City is also ready. The projects are $450,000. each and require extensive collaborations with K 12, middle schools, ROCPs and adult school as well as other community organizations and business and industry. Information will be forthcoming. *
Update: John Clerx has completed the letter of intent that includes all nine colleges. The System Office communicated that there could be more than one project per district.
Next meeting
The next meeting is Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the District Board Room. The host college is West LA.
Thanks to District Office for hosting the December meeting.
