4.GENERAL BUSINESS

4.1Stages

Adrian suggested that the stage from Oval 2 be brought up to Oval 1 and have the two stages together, with the performances alternating between stages. The aim is to bring people together, and get people to connect. It was agreed by the Committee that we would try it this year and see how it goes.

Then on Oval 2 fill it with cars, stalls and the Dog Show Ring, with temporary speakers. The PA for the Dog Show can be used for races later in the day. Clr Miles suggested “Farmer Dave”, who does dog training exercises. Adrian suggested a mob in Armidale who work with dogs and getting the kids off the streets. We have had them before, possibly 2009. Adrian will put feelers out to have a dog display.

Clr Miles asked what was happening on Oval 3 – Teenagers.

4.2Car Display – Update

Clr Miles referred to Canada Bay Council’s Italian Festival ‘Ferragosto’ (which is on Sunday 17 August 2014 between 10am and 4pm), and that they have a car display. He suggested Adrian email the Car Clubs notifying them of the event, and their members will have to apply to us to participate.

4.3Youth Committee – May meeting

It is hoped that a Committee of young people will be formed. Schools have been contacted.

4.4Parade

It would be good to inspire people to get them motivated to improve the quality of floats. We could hire someone from Reverse Garbage, and send them to the groups on a particular day to help them or do we have a collective day somewhere? Tony believes the kids enjoy doing it and the other thing is getting input from the kids as well. The important thing is giving them guidelines. Clr Astridge suggested having 2 or 3 different styles of competition, but we would need more prizes. There is a theme for the Festival, so that could be the theme for the Parade and we need to inspire them more to be creative. Perhaps we need to find out who the Co-ordinator is of each of these groups and find out how we can help them. Clr Miles suggested we workshop it. Adrian to contact them, this is the premise under which we are going to run the Parade. This is the theme. We want you to build something and dress up. Most of the Parade takes place on the Festival site. Clr Astridge suggested that perhaps we should look at the route. The issue is street closures and infrastructure required. What benefit is there from doing that? We need spectators. Clr Astridge asked could businesses be contacted as a sponsor for a float?

4.5Committee Members

It was agreed that we need more Committee members and Clr Astridge suggested that Council advertise for more Committee members, and that a recommendation be made to Council reflecting this.
