St. Gregory Parish Council Meeting, November 28, 2017

Members Present: Fr. Peter, Laverne Williams, Trish Hart, Elizabeth Dawson, Don Bohn, Terry Luckett, Mark Olliges, Ron French, Dennis Roush, BJ Greenwell, Donna Ballard, Tim Hutchins

Members Absent: N/A

Meeting opened with a prayer.

Old Business:

  • Discussed the changes that are being made in the by-laws and terms for members. Chair positions being open to ministry leaders along with committee members.
  • Elizabeth Dawson handed out “Devine Renovation” along with a study guide.
  • Laverne Williams attended PCAL (Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of Louisville) at the new pastoral center. Information addressed: financial report, 5 ordained seminarians (14 out of 19 from KY), more priests have been ordained than retiring, Discernment Process which 3 churches have already participated in is being well received.

New Business:

  • Fr. Peter reported that we are close to reaching our CSA goal in donations and in donor participation.
  • St. Gregory School recently received a monetary donation and St. Gregory Church received a donation for a new nativity scene.
  • Need to advertise Lenten Mission
  • Discussion of location of Defibrillator and if there is a need for another one
  • NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) - Youth from St. Gregory attended NCYC with thankful hearts and enjoyed

Committee Reports/ Member Issues

  • Administration- A lot of maintenance, cleaning, and up keep has been recently completed on the buildings and grounds. Painting inside and outside of PCC, Cleaning of almost the whole grounds (eg. Gym, rectory, school, church, pavilion, playground equipment, storage building, office, fence)

All windows and doors have been caulked along with painting of the rectory garage windows and foundation. Lastly, landscaping has been cleaned and trimmed throughout.

We have a new maintenance man, Bill Greenwell. New sign has been installed.

  • Formation- Advent books are going to be passed out at church, Dec 10 meeting date set to discuss plans for the February parish Lenten mission with St. Monica, Parish mission will be February 11,12, 13, Evaluation/survey for plans and events of Formation Committee
  • Service- Feeding America had a great turnout with 82 students, Seniors/Young at Heart will have their next dinner on Dec 13 with theme of Christmas, 3 new families joined St. Gregory’s Parish and Next Service meeting set for Dec. 5.
  • Worship- 150 family members came to the consolation dinner and it was very successful, Advent books have arrived, Dec 3rd at 10:30 AM Mass will be Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming for RCIA, Dec. 13 will be First Reconciliation at 6:30 PM, Regional Reconciliation at St. Joseph at 2 PM on Dec 10 and at St. Thomas March 11 at 2 PM, Arts and Environment are working on seasonal décor for Christmas/Advent season, and need Ushers to welcome and sit people during Christmas Masses which will be Dec 24 at 4:30 PM, 11:00 PM and Dec 25 at 10:00 AM, Next Worship meeting Jan 11 at 6:30 PM
  • School Board- School has 178 students, new 1st grade teacher was hired, Dec 3 Breakfast with Santa, Jan will review budget and prioritize needs of the school

Next parish council meeting will be January 9th at 7:00 PM in the McGee Room.
