GREAT IDEA HONORS PROGRAM
The NCBA Federation Services 2013 Great Idea Honors Program is designed to recognize state beef councils (SBCs) for their implementation of events, partnerships, public relation efforts and promotions that successfully increase the awareness of the nutritional value of beef and assist in moving the demand for beef. The Great Ideas concept originated with a collection of state ideas that were annually submitted, published and distributed as the Great Idea Book each year during State Kickoff. In fiscal 2012, we transitioned to a more formal recognition program, which was well received by SBCs, to spotlight the efforts of qualified state beef council staff in achieving outstanding programs. The program continues to emphasize the importance of measurable evaluation on every effort, program and result initiated by our SBCs and their dedicated staff.
State beef councils will be divided into three categories based on Federation Investment guidelines. The SBCs will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges and have the opportunity to compete in like-size categories in each program area.
Group I – Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and Washington
Group II – Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming
Group III – Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota
GREAT IDEA HONORS PROGRAM JUDGING CRITERIA
State beef councils must submit applications and supporting documents by noon MDT on September 20, 2013. Applications should be sent to Amy Johnson, NCBA Federation Services at 9110 E. Nichols Avenue, Suite #300, Centennial, CO 80112 or emailed to to be considered by the judges.
A panel of three to five independent judges will be selected by NCBA Federation Services to review and score the submissions.
The judges will score each Great Idea Honors program area in like-size categories on a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being best) based upon collateral materials, measureable results, adaptability, versatility, leveraging of partnerships and use of resources (internal and external).
State beef councils receiving an average score of three or better in a program area will receive a Great Idea Honor.
THE GREATEST IDEA AWARD
This special award will recognize the most unique and creative idea submitted overall. This single honor will be awarded to only one state beef council or team and will showcase the best overall example of excellence by all accounts.
GREAT IDEA HONORS 2013 REPORTING GUIDELINES
SBCs should submit program summaries on projects completed during NCBA’s fiscal year (October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013).
There is no limit to the number of projects or categories a qualified SBC can enter. The entry form may be duplicated. However, if a project involves more than one category, it should only be reported in one category.
You may attach up to three, two-sided pages to each section. These pages may contain newspaper clippings, photos, handouts, or an essay describing the program in more detail. (If submitting hard copy, we may contact you for digital photos of the program.)
Remember, your project is being judged by an independent panel, so it is up to you to sell your program and its success to the judges based upon measurable evaluation criteria.
Deadline for submission of entries to the Great Idea Honors Program is noon MDT on September 20, 2013.
The Great Idea Honors Award dinner will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Denver during the Partnerships In Action Conference.
