TEXAS HEROES MAGAZINE PROJECT

Welcome to your spring research project in Texas History! You are to choose one person from the 20th Century (1900s) of Texas History and create a magazine about your person. The requirements for this project are outlined below. We will have one class (maybe two) to work on your project, but most of it will need to be done outside of class. Your project is due for 4th period students on Wednesday, May 25th and 7th period students Thursday, May 26th. If time permits, you will be expected to present your magazine to the class, so please be ready, if asked. Projects will be graded using a rubric based on accuracy, neatness, format, creativity, and visual. If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Leger! HAVE FUN!

REQUIREMENTS:

I.  MAGAZINE will include:

  1. Cover Page-

i. Title of your magazine (i.e. Time, People, Own Title)

ii. Created By (Your Name)

iii. Issue Date (May 2011)

iv. Picture of your person

v. Creative, neat and colorful!

  1. Page 1: Bio Page- Write two paragraphs (4-6 sentences) about your person.

1st Paragraph (4-6 sentences)- Include:

  1. Birth (when and where) and Death (when and where)
  2. Physical or Mental characteristics

2nd Paragraph (4-6 sentences)- Include:

  1. Accomplishments and/or Failures (STORIES! Tell me an interesting story about your person)
  2. Picture (birth or at a young age)
  3. Creative, neat and colorful!
  1. Page 2: What made he/she famous?- Write two paragraphs (4-6 sentences)

1st Paragraph (4-6 sentences)- Include:

i. explain how and why your person became famous

2nd Paragraph (4-6 sentences)- Include:

ii. explain why it is important to remember he/she today

iii. Picture

iv. Creative, neat and colorful!

d. Page 3: Trivia/Neat Facts- Include:

i. A list 10 interesting facts about your person

ii. Picture relating to one of the facts listed

iii. Creative, neat and colorful!

e. Page 4: Collage of Pictures (with short descriptive captions underneath

explaining your picture) Pictures can consist of: (Need at least 5)

i. Person

ii. Events (that relate)

iii. Symbols or items (that relate)

iv. Newspaper clippings

v. Creative, neat, and colorful!

f. Page 5: Map of Texas (with places lived; birth, death, etc.)

i. Label, on the Texas Map, all cities important within your person’s life.

ii. Creative, neat, and colorful!
