Job title:Community Fundraiser

Responsible to: Marketing and Communications Manager

Hours:22.5 (3 days per week based on 7.5 hour day)

Salary Scale:£20,215 per annum FTE (pro rata)

Staff working with:Corporate Fundraiser, Trusts and Appeals Fundraiser, and other team members

Place of work:Carers Support Centre, The Vassall Centre,

Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol, BS16 2QQ

Initial term 12 months, funded by the Big Lottery Local Sustainability Fund. This is a new and challenging post. We have already made some small steps with community and event fundraising. We aim to develop this as a new strand of income generation for the charity.

Main Purpose of the Role:


  • develop community and event fundraising as a viable income stream for the charity.


  • identifying and developing relationships with a range of groups and individuals empowering them to organise fundraising events on behalf of CSC.
  • organising a limited number of fundraising events run by CSC.


1.1initiate and develop strong external links with potential community supporters egwith community organisations, volunteer groups, carers and individuals

1.2work alongside CSC staff to maximise existing links eg with carers support groups, schools, employers, GP surgeries and hospitals

1.3grow the membership of, and provide support to, the newly formed ‘Friends of Carers Support Centre’ who organise independent fundraising activity

1.4develop the potential for challenge events and provide support to individuals undertaking them

1.5work with the part time Corporate Fundraiser to maximise relationshipseg Charity of the Year, payroll giving, in kind donations, volunteering, sponsorship

1.6use existing marketing materials and develop targeted communicationsto attract and develop community supporters

1.7deliver presentations and talks toa variety of audiences

1.8write content for the supporters/friends e-bulletin

1.9research and implement at least one major new fundraising eventwhich willbecome an annual high profile fixtureeg gala dinner, ball, sponsored walk, concert, auction

1.10seek raffle prizes from local businesses for 1 or 2 raffles during the year

1.11work closely with Marketing and Communications Team to ensure community activity and events are appropriately publicised

1.12contribute to the Fundraising Strategy, by preparing community fundraising and fundraising event plans, reporting on progress andevaluating the effectiveness of activity

1.13keep accurate records; on a fundraising database of meetings, follow-up actions and community fundraising diary activity

1.14participate in Fundraising Sub Committee and team meetings



2.1. co-operate with all CSCstaff in maintaining good relationships with outside agencies and the general public in order to uphold the charity’s image and secure increased support for its work

2.2. promote a positive image of CSC

2.3. ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the CSC’s policies and procedures.

2.4. attend staff meetings and training as required

2.5. participate in regular supervision and appraisal with your Line Manager

2.6. carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by your Line Manager or his/her higher level of authority

  • GCSE English and Maths
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant fundraising qualification (eg Institute of Fundraising Cert)
  • Membership of Institute of Fundraising

  1. Experience/Knowledge
  • An understanding and awareness of the needs of carers
  • Proven track record in community fundraising
  • Experience of planning and running successful events
  • Experience of speaking in public
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of Charity Commission best practice
