BOYAN IVANOV
CLARINET
Boyan Ivanov, born in 1983 in Yambol, Bulgaria, is oneof the most promising Bulgarian clarinetists today.In 2005 Boyan completed hisBachelor studies with highest honorsfrom the Plovdiv Academy of Music,Dance and Fine Arts. His professor and mentor therewas the renowned Prof. Petko Radev, a long-timeprincipal clarinetist of Milan‘s La Scala.During his studies the artist won third prize from the 2003 International Competitionfor French Music Performance.
He has participated in the Master classes ofMichael Collins (UK), Andrew Marriner (UK), Robert Spring (USA), CharlesNeidich (USA), Reiner Wehle(Germany), NicolasBalderou (France), Hervé Cligniez (France). Boyan has played and toured extensively throughout Europeand South Korea withseveral Bulgarian orchestras.
In London Boyan has recently performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician at many prestigious venues including Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall,Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall,Queen Elizabeth Hall, St James’s Piccadilly, St. Martin in the Fields, St John’s Smith Square,Kings Place, Blackheath Halls, Regent Hall. In 2008/09 hestudied with the Spanish virtuoso clarinettist, Joan Enric Lluna at Trinity College of Music, where he gained the FTCL Recital Diploma in Clarinet, was Principal Clarinet of the Trinity Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and after competition was chosen to play the clarinet solo part in Bernstein’s famous Prelude, Fugue and Riffs with Trinity Jazz Ensemble in a performance at Blackheath Halls. In August 2009 Boyan was invited by Italian pianist Emilio Aversano to participate in the festival “Armonie della Magna Grecia”, where he made his debut on the Italian stage with two concerts in Tropea and Pizzo.
In 2010 Boyan received his Master Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was studying with Julian Farrell and Nick Carpenter, and was Principal Clarinet of the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra. In January 2010 he was awarded the Making Music Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists as part of which, in 2011, he gave recitals for several Music Societies across UK, and was soloist of Dulwich Symphony and Warwickshire Symphony Orchestras.
In 2012 the young clarinetist was invited by Argentinean composer and conductor Fabricio Brachetta to play Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and to give a premiere of his new Clarinet Concerto in a very successful concert with London Arte Chamber Orchestra in aid of the Stroke Association. In March 2012 Boyan made his performing debut at Kings Place, where he gave an UK premiere of the American composer Deborah Netanel’s piece – “Before”, and inNovember 2012 participated in a concert with the world renowned Chilingirian Quartet at the same venue.In 2013 Boyan gave an impressive performance of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with King’s College London Chamber Orchestra, and performed for first time at the Wigmore Hall as part of the Chamber Tots Programme. In 2014, as a member of Orion Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Ivanov participated in the “Celebrating Jon Lord” Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, together with the rock legends Deep Purple, and a few months later took part in the “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” UK Tour with Rick Wakeman, where he performed at concert venues such as Royal Albert Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic, Manchester Apollo, Birmingham NIA, Cardiff Arena and Glasgow Clyde Auditorium among others.
Currently Boyan is an active solo and chamber music performer and is member of the Inspirity Ensemble, Islington Camerata and the Trinity Trio. He plays regularly with Orion Symphony Orchestra, Firebird Orchestra, London Arts Orchestra, King’s Chamber Orchestra, Aldwych Sinfonia,Guernsey Sinfonietta among others, andis part of the Co-Opera Company Orchestra.
