AGRICULTURE & EXTENSION COMMITTEE

May 1, 2012

Members present: Robert Krause, Arlyn Tober, Bert Huntington, Richard Ferfecki, Marvin Klosterman.

Others present: Joe Stellato, Terri Brunner, Jay Moynihan, Katie Behnke, Kyla Hischke, Megan Suehring, and Rhonda Sumnicht

Location & Time: Courthouse, RoomA – 10:49 a.m.

Call to Order: Office Chair, Joe Stellato, called the meeting to order at 10:49 a.m.

UWEX staff introduced themselves to the new committee members.

Election of Committee Officers: Huntington nominated Robert Krause for Chairman. Motion by Huntington, seconded by Klosterman. Motion carried 5-0.

Ferfecki nominated Tober for Vice-Chair, motion by Huntington, seconded by Klosterman. Motion carried 5-0.

Tober nominated Klosterman for Secretary, motion by Tober, seconded by Huntington. Motion carried 5-0.

Rhonda Sumnicht to remain as the recording secretary.

Ag Society Liaison – Robert Krause to remain, motion by Huntington, seconded by Ferfecki. Motion carried 5-0.

Verification of Posting: Bob Krause verified that the meeting was properly posted.

Approval of Minutes: Motion by Huntington, seconded by Tober to accept minutes from April 3rd, 2012 meeting. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion to Deviate: Motion by Huntington, seconded by Ferfecki to deviate. Motion carried

5-0.

Public Comments – None.

Staff Reports:

Katie Behnke gave Klosterman and Ferfecki a copy of her April newsletter. She also handed them information on the programs that she has held in the past few months. She also informed them that she is the Advisor for the Wolf River Master Gardener Association.

Terri Brunner reported on the Adventures in Dairyland program and handed out the evaluations from the parents of the students. Horse Camp is in July and is full and 4-H resident camp is also in July.

Megan Suerhing and Kyla Hischke explained their positions to the new committee and reported on the schools that they have been teaching nutrition education at. They also received a grant from Bowler School and taught breakfast nutrition to 350 students in April.

Jay Moynihan gave an overview of his position with extension and handed out a summary to the new committee members. He also explained the various workshops that he is working on within the community.

Joe Stellato reported for Linda Olson. Joe handed out Linda’s newsletter to the new committee members and explained her position. He also told them about her Food Preservation Classes, how she does budgeting with families, and the VITA program.

Joe Stellato handed out the 4-H Cloverline newsletter to the new committee members and also a brochure on 4-H information. He explained his position and told them about how he teaches personal finance for Junior Achievement to 7th graders each year. He also told them about the 4-H Food Stand at the fairgrounds that is open from mid-April thru September during the Flea Market.

Discussion on 2012 WACEC Conference in June: Conference is at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay from June 24-26. May 24th is the deadline to register. Members are to let Rhonda know by May 20th if they are attending.

Motion by Huntington, seconded by Toberto approve all committee members’attendance and travel expenses for the WACEC Conference at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay June 24-26. Motion carried 5-0.

Discussion On WACEC Auction Item: Discussion on auction item for the WACEC Conference. Joe will get a wood carving.

Skateboard Park Update: Joe Stellato gives the history of the skateboard park to the new committee members. The city is going to start charging a $10 user fee for skateboarders to cover the cost of lighting and the security camera.

Marvin Klosterman had to leave the meeting at 12:07 p.m.

Ag Society Update: No meeting yet this month. Will report at next month’s meeting.

PILD Conference Report: Will report on at next meeting. Put on June agenda.

Discussion and Action on Fairgrounds Maintenance Bill: Discussion on bill for repair from Raddant Electric.

Motion by Huntington, seconded by Ferfecki to approve invoice dated 11/23/11 in the amount of $1,212.00 to be paid from the farm rental account to Raddant Electric for electrical work at the Shawano County Fairgrounds. Motion carried 4-0.

UWEX 100th Anniversary Resolution: Discussion on UWEX Commemorative Resolution for 10tth Anniversary.

Motion by Tober, seconded by Ferfecki to approve and forward to County Board for May meeting. Motion carried 4-0.

UWEX 100th Anniversary Display: There may not be a July County Board Meeting. If no meeting in July, UWEX will have the display at the August 22nd County Board Meeting.

Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn by Huntington, seconded by Tober at 12:21 p.m. Motion carried 4-0.
