Tough Times: Part II

REVIEW

Last week (Tough Times I) we talked about how we are supposed to rejoice during tough times, because if we trust in God they actually makes us stronger people. If we do this, we will be better people NOT bitter people.

1 Peter 1: 6-7

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though defined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

 Tough situations can increase our ______.

Psalm 40: 1-4

1. When David waited patiently, God heard His cry.

  • What are the “slimy pits” in your life?
  • Picture “slime,” “mud” and “mire.” How is sin like these things?

2. Only Jesus has the power to ______of every tough time.

  • What other things in our lives do we try to make our rock – or our safe place?

As Psalm 40 illustrates, sin is usually part or all of the reason for tough times in our life. But thankfully, God never gives us more than we can handle!

1 Corinthians 10: 12-13

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
