This section includes factory finished wood window frame intended for Bovard Studios new or restored stained glass and glazing. Frame is for fixed sash and perimeter seal. Stained glass is referenced to Sections 08585 and 08595. Glazing is referenced to Section 08800. Sealants are referenced to Section 07900. If an aluminum frame instead of wood is required, refer to Bovard Sections 08521 or 08522. Air barrier and vapour retarder continuity from wood frame to adjacent construction is critical to successful building air tightness; specify compatible materials in conjunction with Sections 07260 and 07270. This section includes performance, proprietary, and descriptive type specifications. Edit to avoid conflicting requirements.

1.3 DEFINITIONS

.1 Exterior Protected Glazing: A exterior lite of glass or plastic in a wood or metal frame, to protect and preserve a separate stained glass lite assembly.

1.5 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Use this article carefully; restrict statements to describe the combined result of the components used to assemble the system. Do not repeat statements made in the Section Includes article. Select one or both of the following two subparagraphs.

.1 Single thickness wood member for framing glazed lights including stained glass.
.2 Wood frame for:

1.6 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Use this article carefully; restrict statements to identify system performance requirements or function criteria only. Many proprietary window products are marketed without performance data in their literature and therefore may not have been tested for performance characteristics. Consider the potential costs of requiring the following criteria. The following paragraphs represent a suggested listing of performance criteria.

.1 IBC Requirements for Window Assembly and Component Parts: Wind loads, structural member deflection, and hurricane zone and wind generated missile criteria.

.2 Window Assembly Design:

.1 Design and size components to withstand dead loads and live loads caused by positive and negative wind loads acting normal to plane of wall as calculated in accordance with code.
.2 Design and size components to prevent condensation between glass panes, high humidity or high temperature from solar heat gain between glass panes.

Select one of the option subparagraphs depending on the location of the place of the Work.

.3 System Internal Drainage: Drain water entering joints, condensation occurring in glazing channels, or migrating moisture occurring within assembly, by a weep drainage network from interpane spaces and glazing spaces, ventilate through frame not through glazed protective covering:

.1 [Ventilate and drain spaces to the exterior in central and northern climates.]
.2 [Ventilate and drain spaces to the interior in southern climates where cooled air conditioning is used.]

.4 Assembly: To accommodate, without damage to components or deterioration of seals, movement between window, perimeter frame and attachments, deflection of lintel or sill.

Select one or the other (not both) of the following two deflection requirement paragraphs. If choosing the second paragraph below, select only one of the deflection limit ratio subparagraph options.

.5 Deflection:

.1 Limit member deflection to flexure limit of glass of the longer dimension, with full recovery of glazing materials or as required by regulatory code, whichever is more stringent.
.2 Create a glazing space from edge of glass to inside of frame surface, of a dimension greater than maximum deflection anticipated.

The following paragraph identifies an air loss rate that is not usually acceptable in colder climates.

.6 Air Infiltration: Limit air infiltration through assembly to [0.03] [____] L/s/sq m ([0.06] [____] cfm/min/sq ft) of wall area, measured at a reference differential pressure across assembly of [75] [____] Pa ([1.57] [____] psf) as measured in accordance with ASTM E283.

.7 Air and Vapour Seal: Maintain continuous air barrier and vapour retarder throughout assembly, primarily in line with the pane of glass and heel bead of glazing compound, on the warm side of the window assembly.

1.7 SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW

Do not request submittals if drawings sufficiently describe the products of this section or if proprietary specifying techniques are used. The review of submittals increases the possibility of unintended variations to drawings, thereby increasing the Specifier's liability. The following submittals are intended for review and approval or other action by the Consultant.

.1 Section 01300: Submission procedures.

.2 Product Data: Provide component dimensions, anchorage and fasteners, glass, internal drainage details and [______].

.1 Indicate opening dimensions, framed opening tolerances, affected related work; installation requirements; and [______].

.2 Indicate a load table listing all loads and reactions expected due to performance requirements.

.3 Indicate ventilation criteria and vent locations and sizes (free area).

.4 Indicate filter material and applicable criteria, filter free-air efficiency, and filter locations.

Use the following paragraph for submission of physical samples for selection of finish, colour, texture, etc.

1.9 ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

This article is intended to confirm that regulatory requirements have been addressed, and if necessary, certification has been addressed.

.1 Dispose of solid and airborne lead particles and other toxic materials to regulatory requirements.

.2 Provide a certified copy of recent and current record of adhering to regulatory requirements as to handling, packaging and disposing of lead particulate and other toxic products.

1.10 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Only include this article if the specified windows warrant special design attention. AAMA 101 identifies a variety of window types and related performance characteristics as "Designations"; edit the text of this section accordingly. Include the last sentence of the following paragraph only when the costs of acquiring the specified standards are justified.

2.5 SEALANT MATERIALS

Incorporate sealant materials by direct reference to Section 07900. The following paragraphs only describe sealant type; coordinate with schedule in Section 07900. Sealants used for glazing are specified in Section 08800.

2.6 FABRICATION

.1 Fabricate components with minimum and consistent clearances and shim spacing around perimeter of assembly, yet enabling installation and dynamic movement of frame and perimeter seal.

.2 Accurately fit and secure joints and corners. Make joints flush, hairline, weatherproof, and air-tight.

.3 Prepare components to receive anchor devices. Fabricate anchors.

.4 Arrange fasteners and attachments to ensure concealment from view.

.5 Prepare components with internal reinforcement for operating hardware.

.6 [Provide concealed reinforcement between mullion members with galvanized steel members to maintain rigidity.]

.7 Permit drainage weep holes and channels to migrate moisture movement. Provide internal drainage of glazing spaces to exterior through weep holes.

.8 Factory glaze window units to requirements of Section 08800.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

.1 Section 01700: Verification of existing conditions before starting work.

.2 Verify wall openings and adjoining air and vapour seal materials are ready to receive work of this Section.

3.2 INSTALLATION

.1 Install window frames, glass and glazing in accordance with frame and glass manufacturers instructions.

.2 Attach window frame and shims to perimeter opening to accommodate construction tolerances and other irregularities.

.3 Align window plumb and level, free of warp or twist. Maintain dimensional tolerances and alignment with adjacent work.

.4 Place a Precision Flow ventilation device at required interpane spaces.

.5 Install sill [and sill end angles].

.6 Provide thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation. Inject foam insulation into all shim spaces at perimeter of assembly to maintain continuity of thermal barrier and to provide an air seal on the warm side of the wall opening.

.7 Coordinate attachment and seal of perimeter air barrier and vapour retarder materials.

3.3 ERECTION TOLERANCES

.1 Section 01400: Tolerances.
