Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Congregation of the First United Methodist Church is to continue to be a committed fellowship of disciples sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ and furnishing a place of Christian worship, programs, services and facilities for its members and the people of the Johnson City area.
Teddy Bear Ministry
You are invited to hold a bear during joys and concerns and then take it and give it to someone who needs a word of encouragement, healing, or up-lifting. We ask that you do not take one for yourself. We also welcome bears that you would like to donate. They don’t have to be new. We are able to clean most “old” bears.

Call to Worship BOW #460
Leader: O God, our Guide and Guardian, you have led us apart from the busy world into the quiet of your house.
All: Grant us grace to worship you in Spirit and in truth, to the comfort of our souls and the upbuilding of every good purpose and holy desire.
Leader: Enable us to do more perfectly the work to which you have called us, that we may not fear the coming of night, when we shall resign into your hands the tasks which you have committed to us.
All: So may we worship you not with our lips at this hour, but in word and deed all the days of our lives; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
(THE BOOK OF WORSHIP 1965, ALT.)
Hymn of Praise “The Lily of the Valley” FWS #2062
Prayer of Confession BOW #487
O Great Spirit, whose voice we hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear us. We come before you as your children.
We are small and weak; we need your strength and wisdom.
Let us walk in beauty and make our eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. May our hands respect the things you have made, our ears be sharp to hear your voice.
Make us wise, so that we may know the things you have taught your people, the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
We seek strength not to be superior to our brothers and sisters, but to live in harmony with ourselves and all of your creation.
Help us to be ever ready to come to you, so when life fades as a fading sunset, our spirits may come to you without shame. Amen.
(TRADITIONAL NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER)
(A Time of Quiet Reflection)
Words of Assurance
May almighty God, who caused light to shine out of darkness, shine in our hearts, cleansing us from all our sins, and restoring us to the light of the knowledge of God's glory, in the face of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Today’s Scripture
Common English Bible
Ephesians 5:15-20
15So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly. 16Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times. 17Because of this, don’t be ignorant, but understand the Lord’s will. 18Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit in the following ways: 19speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; sing and make music to the Lord in your hearts; 20always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
