Youth and Shakespeare Academy
for students entering Grades 6,7,8 in the Fall 2014.
Dates~ July 7 – August 7th
The Center for Renaissance Studies at UMASS Performance - August 5th at 10.30am
This five-week summer intensive offers an exciting and unique exposure to the dramatic arts through the work of the playwright William Shakespeare. Students will have the opportunity to explore the world of theater – acting, directing, choreography, costuming, and set design. Along the way, they will emerge as a theater ensemble that supports each other, stretch their imaginations, and succeed beyond what they thought possible.
All students will have the opportunity to be cast as characters in the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, wear theatrical costumes, work behind the scenes and perform their own remixed scenes from The Tempest, one of the Shakespearean plays with magic and treachery! They will perform for family and friends at the beautiful outdoor performance space at The Massachusetts Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies at UMASS Amherst. In addition to field trips with the Connections students in the Youth and Shakespeare Academy will also have the opportunity to visit and tour UMass Amherst and Hampshire College, as part of the Access to College campus experience.
