What area(s) of concern are reflected in this report for this class?
What specific area will be a class goal for this class in this subject?
What strategies will I use to engage students and parents in working toward this goal?

Classroom Goal Sheet (MAP Data)

Teacher: _Bondy_ Subject: __Mathematics__

Grade: ___6th______School Year: __04-05_ Date: Dec. 6, 2004

Using your Teacher Reports, complete this sheet and set a goal for your class this year:

What areas would be considered “strong areas” for this class?
  • Number Sense
  • Data Analysis
  • Algebraic Functions

What area(s) of concern are reflected in this report for this class?
  • Measurement (213 compared to 217 for the overall median score on the test)
  • Continue to monitor for students that are in the “low” category in other areas.

What specific area will be a class goal for this class in this subject?
  • Concepts of measurement will be my class goal with an emphasis on real-life problem solving.

What strategies will I use to engage students and parents in working toward this goal?
  • I will share the class goal with parents and ask them to reinforce measurement concepts at home by having students solve real life measurement scenarios.
  • I will provide time for a “daily measurement problem” twice a week. Problems will be differentiated based on the class break down chart.
  • I will collaborate with the resource teacher and TAG teacher to provide supplemental and enhance lessons in measurement for identified students in my class.

What research-based instructional strategies exist to help student learning in this area?
  • I will build a “Data Ladder” in Measurement that is aligned to my district’s standards in math and identify where all students are on the ladder and provide flexible grouping, cooperative learning activities for all students.
  • I will use the NCTM “Strand of Proficiency” to help students learn measurement concepts: understanding, computing, applying, reasoning, and engaging.

How will I monitor progress toward this goal? (What other formative assessment will be used related to this area?) How often will I monitor progress?
  • I will create a set of performance tasks based on the “Data Ladder” that will assess how students are making progress on the measurement standards.
  • At least once, I will do an observation of how students are engaging and using reason and logic (and other NCTM proficiency standards) to identify errors and misconceptions.
  • Have the resource teacher and at-risk teacher do observations for students receiving extra help.
  • Will give a mid-year MAP assessment to monitor for growth in the measurement area
