St. Francis of Assisi Primary

September 2013

We are delighted to welcome our Primary 1 children into school full-time as of Monday, 2 September. We are sure that they will feel supported and secure when with us from 9am – 3pm.

We would like thank all parents for the time and support you have given by ensuring that all children are resplendent in their school uniform. As ever they are a credit to you and us.

On Friday, 30 August, our P.1 children will be photographed for the Evening Times. We will alert you as to when the photograph will be published. As ever, we are sure that they will do you proud!

Breakfast Club

The cost of the Breakfast Club is £1 and children should enter from the door to the lunch hall.

Only children who attend Breakfast Club should be in the school before 9am.

Families in receipt of free meals do not have to pay.

Fuel Zone

Just a reminder: the cost of the Fuel Zone at lunchtime is £1.40.

Again if you are in receipt of free meals, there is no charge.

If you feel that you may be entitled to free meals or a clothing grant, please contact the office and you will be given the appropriate forms.

School Bus

Some of our children use the school bus to travel to and from school. If you feel that you may be entitled to use this service, please contact the school office for a form.

Swimming

Primary 7 began their swimming instruction last week and it will last or the next 13 weeks.

End of Year of Faith Mass

Our Primary 7 children will join with all other P.7s from the local area, to celebrate the End of Year of Faith Mass at Carfin Grotto on Friday, 13 September at 11am. We are sure that it will be a fitting conclusion to a memorable year in the life of the Church.

Medication

All children who require medication to be administered should complete the appropriate form. You will be alerted if your child has an inhaler which is nearing its expiry date.

Parking

A resident has complained to the school about cars driving particularly quickly around the school. Please be aware of small children crossing the road.

The school car park should only be used by authorised vehicles. These would include school staff, Glasgow City Council employees and visitors to the school.

The church car park is always open to allow parents to park while dropping off and collecting their children.

Dogs

No dogs are allowed in the playground at any point. We would ask you to respect this in order to keep disease at bay.

Credit Union

The Credit Union will begin next week and children can open a new account. However, due to the change in legislation regarding credit union, children can only have one account in their name. This would only become an issue if parents or grandparents had opened an account for them.

School Trips

Over the course of the year all children will leave the school at some point. Some trips have already been arranged.

·  P.5-7 have been offered the chance to visit M&D’s at Strathclyde Park on Thursday, 26 September, free of charge. Children should only pay £3 to cover the cost of the bus.

·  On Tuesday, 3 September P.7 will attend a performance of the RSNO in the City Halls. We are sure that they will thoroughly enjoy it!

This year the P.7 residential trip will take place from Monday 24, March until Friday, 28 March 2014 and we will be visiting Blairvadach Outdoor Centre.

More information will follow.

Allergy Awareness

If your child has been diagnosed with an allergy, could you please inform the office as soon as possible? If a diagnosis is made during the school year, please advise us as quickly as possible and hand in any prescribed medication.

Within our school, we have pupils with severe nut allergies. Please do not send nuts into school.

Birthdays

Birthdays are important occasions for all our children.

In the past parents have kindly sent in birthday cakes for the children to share. Due to the amount of allergies within our school, please refrain from doing this, as we would not want to offend any parent or child.

School Security

Within every Glasgow City Council establishment, security of our children is paramount to us.

With this in mind, it is important that only members of staff, known to the children and identified by the fluorescent yellow jackets, are in the playground between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

If children are being taken home for lunch, they should continue to sit outside the office until and adult arrives to take the.

On returning from lunch, adults should return children to the office to ensure that we are aware that they have returned to school.

Adults should then leave the school premises and children will be escorted to the appropriate playground.

Balls in the Playground

It is imperative that balls are not used in the playground before 9am.

We have many parents/ carers who walk through the playground to get to the correct playground for their child.

Many of our parents have younger children with them who are walking or in a pram or buggy and we must ensure their safety.
