A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR WELDON WYATT OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR HIS ABUNDANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN AIKEN COUNTY AND THE EDUCATION OF AIKEN COUNTY RESIDENTS AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING SELECTED TO RECEIVE A JEFFERSON AWARD BY THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC SERVICE.
Whereas, the General Assembly commends and congratulates Weldon Wyatt for his selfless generosity displayed by his contributions to Aiken County Schools and his selection as a Jefferson Award recipient by the American Institute for Public Service; and
Whereas, the Jefferson Awards, established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Robert Taft, and Sam Beard, are highly esteemed honors given annually to those whose individual commitment to excellence in our national institutions merits commendation; and
Whereas, Mr. Wyatt was selected as one of only fifty-one recipients of the Jefferson Award from among thousands of nominees across the country; and
Whereas, Weldon Wyatt is very modest about his generosity and tends to give credit to others for doing more than he; however, his charity is well known among superintendents, principals, teachers, and others in the education field; and
Whereas, Mr. Wyatt started the Dollars for Scholars Program, which provides a medium for donors to contribute financially to help less fortunate students who seek to advance their careers and lives; and
Whereas, Weldon Wyatt is an exemplary nominee who has contributed to Aiken County schools for many years. Dr. Linda Eldridge, School Superintendent, said that no single person has had such an impact on schools and children as Mr. Wyatt; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are proud to have such a quintessential example of altruistic public service in the State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Weldon Wyatt of Aiken County for his abundant contributions to the advancement of education in Aiken County and the education of Aiken County residents, and congratulate him on being selected to receive a Jefferson Award by the American Institute for Public Service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Weldon Wyatt of Aiken County.
